The past three weeks have been a whirlwind of activity for both the IT and fashion worlds, as two major events unfolded in two of Europe’s most iconic cities: Florence and London. It was an honour being at both events representing Alpha Cogs.
In Florence, the spotlight was on the e-Pitti Summit event, while London played host to not one, but two AWS summits: the AWS Execleaders Summit and the AWS London Summit. While these events may seem unrelated at first glance, it’s fascinating to uncover the surprising similarities between them.
I want to take a sentence by Roberto Lombardi during e-Pitti Summit in Florence as starting point:
It is only when every single part of a system moves towards the same goal that it is possible to have a (disruptive) revolution.
Lombardi’s observation was referred to the need of big brands in the fashion industry to go united to a different direction in order to promote a shift and a revolution in some consumer habits.
The concept resonated with me since the beginning, gaining even more significance after I attended the AWS Execleaders Summit in London two weeks later. But before we delve into the commonalities between these events and the deeper meaning behind Lombardi’s words, let’s briefly outline what each event entails.
e-Pitti Summit
The e-Pitti Summit event in Florence serves as a vital platform for exploring the intersection of fashion and technology. As I’ve previously detailed in articles and videos, this year’s edition focused on the digital transformation of the fashion industry and here there is a link to the article on our website. With its unique format combining exhibitions, speeches, and presentations, e-Pitti Summit fosters dialogue between tech companies and fashion leaders, shaping the future of luxury and trends.
This year, again, the scientific direction is entrusted to Rinaldo Rinaldi (whom I will have the absolute pleasure of meeting in the coming weeks for a chat), a professor in the Department of Industrial Engineering at the University of Florence, who has been working for many years on the relationship between major fashion and luxury brands and ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) for the digital transition of the entire supply chain. Rinaldi is assisted in selecting the themes and content of the event by a Scientific Committee made up of university professors, experts, and industry executives.
AWS Summits
This year, I’ve been incredibly fortunate to receive an invitation to the AWS Execleaders event in London. I must admit, it stands out as one of the best IT events I’ve attended in recent years. It’s not just about the quality of the discussions or the caliber of professionals present, but also the impeccable organization of the entire event.
Every aspect was meticulously arranged, from the venue layout to the rooms and lighting, making it effortless to engage in conversations and connect with other experts.
AWS Execleaders Summit in London is a premier gathering for business and technology leaders navigating the evolving tech landscape. From insightful keynote speeches to interactive workshops and networking opportunities, the summit offers valuable insights into leadership strategies and innovative technologies.

The thread that ties the events together and reveals the real power of Lombradi’s sentence
So, what ties these seemingly disparate events together? The answer lies in their shared emphasis on artificial intelligence (AI), a central theme that emerged at both gatherings. What’s truly remarkable is not just the prevalence of AI, but the universal recognition of its transformative potential across various industries.
Luxury fashion ( Gucci and GUESS?, Inc. ), healthcare providers ( NHS ), worldwide cosmetic brands ( KIKO MILANO ), Media and Broadcast ( BBC ), food delivery Giants ( Just Eat Takeaway.com ), and beyond, AI is seen as a catalyst for revolutionizing processes and driving tangible benefits.
If the unified vision of AI as a disruptive technology, rather than merely a passing trend or potential IT bubble, wasn’t convincing enough, the substantial investments being made by major players underscore its transformative potential. As Phil Le-Brun emphasized during the AWS Execleaders summit, these investments are a clear indicator of AI’s status as a true game changer, and those who will not embrace it will be designated to become irrelevant.
Those who will not embrace AI will be designated to become irrelevant
This collective acknowledgment of AI’s disruptive power is underscored by the substantial investments pouring in from industry giants like ( Vodafone ), leveraging data analytics to anticipate and strategize for the future. As speakers at both events emphasized, harnessing data-driven insights is crucial for staying ahead in a dynamic landscape.
Margaret Heffernan two weeks later in London was talking about the importance of planning and preparing different strategies to act on events that are likely to happen even if we do not have absolute certainty of them happening. The example of how Countries started to study the most probable pandemics to be ready when one of them might become real, helped to respond to COVID-19.
The ubiquitous presence of AWS as the leading cloud provider at these events highlights the widespread commitment to AI-driven innovation. This unified movement, fueled by a shared vision and supported by robust data analytics, signals the dawn of a monumental revolution transcending the IT sector’s boundaries.
During a presentation of the Royal Opera House project I mentioned the following:
AWS can be seen as the glue that keeps all the major players in all diverse sectors moving together toward the AI and data revolution.
This sentence was related to the fact that AWS is one of the major cloud providers of AI services and I used those services in various projects in different sectors such as Sport and media ( UEFA and Motorsport), Entertainment ( 华特迪士尼公司 and Royal Ballet and Opera ) and lately in the Fashion and Retailer industry.
Under this view, Lombardi’s sentence assumes a much more profound meaning.
The convergence of these events paints a compelling picture of a world on the brink of transformative change. With key players from diverse industries rallying behind AI-driven initiatives, a seismic shift appears imminent — a revolution poised to reshape our collective future. As we bear witness to this remarkable convergence, one thing becomes abundantly clear: the age of AI-powered innovation is upon us, promising a new era of progress and possibility.
