A Strategic Vision

Originally conceived as KHIR (Knowledge, Health, Innovation, and Research) City, the renamed KWIN City is located between Dobbaspete and Doddaballapura, just 45 minutes away from Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport.

Spread across 2,000 acres and part of the Satellite Town Ring Road (STRR), this planned hub is designed to provide a solution to Bengaluru’s rising traffic congestion, while offering a sustainable and innovative environment for businesses, research centers, and top-tier educational institutions.

Deputy CM DK Shivakumar emphasized that KWIN City embodies Karnataka’s vision for the future—leveraging its proximity to Bengaluru, the state’s capital, while building an ecosystem designed to attract global talent and foster groundbreaking advancements

A Visionary Hub for Economic Growth

KWIN City will play a pivotal role in boosting Karnataka's GDP, as noted by Karnataka Minister MB Patil. The city’s focus on public-private partnerships will further enhance the state’s reputation as a hotspot for global investors. With the government’s active collaboration with corporate giants and educational institutions, this project is expected to drive economic activity and provide employment opportunities for the local population.

The city’s connectivity to major infrastructure—including National Highways 44 and 648 as well as the Bengaluru-Pune Greenfield Expressway—ensures easy access for commuters and businesses alike. This makes KWIN City not just a hub of growth but also a solution to Bengaluru’s traffic woes, offering residents and businesses an alternative to the bustling metropolis.

Cutting-Edge Design Meets Sustainability

What sets KWIN City apart is its thoughtful design that merges urban convenience with natural beauty. The city will feature:

  • A central monorail system with stops every 800 meters, offering rapid transit options.
  • 40% green spaces, including parks and 10 interconnected lakes linked by canal systems.
  • A solar farm spanning 465 acres, generating 0.69 million MWh to meet the city’s energy needs.
  • A rainwater harvesting system that will supply 50% of its water requirements, making it a self-sufficient and sustainable city.

KWIN City’s design is aligned with sustainable urban development, a key feature that will enhance the quality of life for its 500,000 expected residents. By integrating eco-friendly infrastructure with state-of-the-art technology, KWIN City is setting a new standard for smart cities of the future.

Knowledge District: A Hub for Global Academia

KWIN City’s Knowledge Hub aims to establish itself as a premier education destination. The city aspires to attract top national and international educational institutions with modern curricula and strong academia-industry partnerships. The city will also leverage new UGC regulations, which allow the top 500 global institutions to open campuses in India, creating a global knowledge exchange.

Health District: Leading the Future of Medicine

Incorporating a Life Sciences Park, the Health District is set to position KWIN City as Asia’s leading academic medical hub. By attracting world-class hospitals and healthcare institutions, the city will foster cutting-edge medical research, train future healthcare professionals, and solidify Karnataka’s position on the global healthcare stage.

Innovation District: Focus on Sunrise Sectors

KWIN City’s Innovation Hub will center on emerging sectors such as Life Sciences, Future Mobility, Semiconductors, Advanced Materials, Aerospace, Defence, and Space Technology. With a focus on global trends and evolving market demands, the Innovation District will bolster Karnataka’s influence in national and international business circles.

Research District: A Global Research Powerhouse

The Research Cluster in KWIN City will strengthen biopharmaceutical and scientific research by establishing cutting-edge clinical trial centers, research labs, and collaborations with global institutions. The city will promote the dissemination of research through publications, seminars, and public lectures, contributing to the global knowledge economy.

A Powerhouse of Global Expertise

The ambitious project is backed by an advisory board of global leaders, including Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw (Chairperson, Biocon), Dr. Devi Shetty (Founder, Narayana Health), and Mohandas Pai (Former CFO, Infosys).

This collaboration between government, industry, and academia ensures that KWIN City will not only attract top-tier talent but also drive pioneering advancements across sectors.

A Catalyst for Real Estate Boom

As a parallel city to Bengaluru, KWIN City is set to trigger a real estate boom in the surrounding areas, particularly around Doddaballapur. Its proximity to key transport hubs and the airport makes it an attractive destination for investors, start-ups, and multinational corporations.

With global health centres, research institutes, and top-tier educational institutions poised to move in, the city is already being positioned as a global leader in the fields of knowledge, health, and innovation.

To conclude,

KWIN City represents Karnataka’s bold leap into the future, where innovation meets sustainability, and economic growth meets human well-being.

With seamless connectivity, eco-friendly infrastructure, and the promise of a self-sufficient lifestyle, KWIN City is not just an urban development project—it’s a visionary hub poised to redefine Bengaluru’s business landscape and contribute significantly to the state’s GDP.

As Karnataka continues to attract global investors and talent, KWIN City stands at the forefront of a new era of growth, setting a blueprint for what smart cities of the future can achieve.
