The Paradox of opposing views
Sometimes I get baffled by the passion with which people take positions and assume opposing viewpoints. Especially as - at face - these people seem to have little or nothing in common and it may seem near to impossible for them to uncover the common ground.
Gun-control, poverty, the environment, privacy, shale gas, veganism, religion - passionate people easily attract passionate opposition.
The Paradox of opposing viewpoints is that the very topic on which views oppose, the very thing they feel passionate about holds, or rather is - by definition - common ground.
But who's to say common ground should be limited to the topic of opposition?
