Walking the Fine Line of Conscious Leadership

Conscious leadership is about walking a very fine balance between developing the culture and pushing for growth and productivity.
Too much focus on productivity and not enough on the culture and the organization begins to suffer.
Too much culture talk and not enough focus on productivity and nothing gets done.
Bottom line, leaders need to balance both of what may be termed as soft and hard core developments. Culture being the software and productivity the hardware.
At times the two seem as a paradox, opposing each other. You see leaders of organizations swing from one initiative to another.
In reality future fit organizations need to develop both horizontally and vertically at the same time.
Developing horizontally ( skills, competences, 360 reviews) and vertical development ( develop higher self - personal development).
What I am realizing is that it's not an either/or game we need to develop in both directions.
For example competency training and 360 degree reviews are extremely useful in leadership. However such horizontal leadership development is extremely out of balance.
The future fit leaders need much more vertical development in order to keep up with the demands of a highly volatile and unpredictable environments.
I can see a time in near future where personal and professional development are indistinguishable . Working on your selves will be just as important ( if not more) as on the business.
In the end it is a vertically developed culture that supports the organization to adapt in this fast moving volatile environment.
Eventually an organization reaches a point where only conscious, self organized inspired individuals are agile enough to deal with the kind of disruptions we see today.

6 年I agree - ultimately 'vertical' leadership development (personal alchemy / mastery) makes greater sustainable impact than 'horizonontal' skills development.
