I love Nigeria to be among the most respected countries as well as to be taken as a serious country.
If you ask me, yes, I’m inferring a country can be respected or disrespected by other nations; It can be taken as a serious or not serious nation─ perhaps because of her actions and inactions. Hahaha!
Do you agree?
I’ll leave that for you to evaluate.
Let’s dive in!
1. The notion that Nigeria shouldn’t be compared with other countries that do well in most areas of their national lives (I understand some reasons people offer for this) should be the first thing to discard immediately.
I argue that when you accept that other countries have the ‘right’ to do better than yours, no matter your ‘good’ reasons for such a position, then you’re inadvertently accepting that these countries’ citizens are better than yours. That you’re perhaps ‘inferior’; or perhaps you don’t deserve to excel and be ‘copied’ by others or be the envy of other nationals!
2. Would you agree that Nigeria should henceforth elect people who are her BRIGHTEST, MOST ACHIEVING as well as THOSE WITH HIGH ACTUAL & PERCEIVED INTEGRITY?
According to Warren Buffet, if someone is qualified on the first two criteria, but not on the third; she’s unqualified. Period.
Brilliant people are thinkers; they are the Creator's gifts to the nations. Do you agree?
Leading a nation is so serious a task because generations yet unborn depend on it; so, a nation shouldn’t leave this in the hands of the non-brilliant!
I think the non-brilliant can have other places to contribute, but let it not be in political leadership; because many generations of a country are attached to outcomes of political leadership.
The L.C.M of my argument is that when people with these qualities come together, they have greater chances to succeed in solving problems than the average people. When the brightest lead, nearly all the other challenges that a country may face─ whether now or in the future─ can be solved.
“Does Nigeria have these sets of citizens?” If yes, has she been deploying them fully? I’m unsure.
Therefore, if Nigeria has not been deploying this calibre of people in her political leadership, then, can she now try my suggestions? We will then evaluate after 58 years and compare!
Do you agree?
On the alternative, continuing to allow people without these three qualities to keep leading Nigeria will keep yielding the average results or even worse outcomes.
To get a glimpse of what the coming together of the brightest people can do in terms of solving problems, I always think of the best things that Silicon Valley keeps turning out─ in all life’s facets! The ‘averages’ rarely have a place there!
So, let nations go for and use their brightest in political leadership too.
Then, solving Nigeria’s problems may be less-complicated than you’ve often thought since other countries have solved similar or related national problems previously which Nigeria can, with humility, learn from or emulate.
Do these opinions sound radical? That’s the reason they’re my opinions.
The 2019 general election is at the corner. Put on your thinking cap and vote wisely!
Your write up seems apparently a valid solution that needs to be tested. Sometimes, it baffles me to think that Nigeria, with its nest of talents, is still wallowing in shambles. I seriously feel something more than political reform needs to be done. As to the brilliant minds, i dont think they are interested in Nigerian politics. Nigeria has suffered from brain drift over the last two decades and will continue to suffer. To say the least, brilliant minds wont solve the problem. The problem is everywhere and not just in political offices. They will only 'try'. I think a violent, drastic and fierce approach will do something great in helping Nigeria become a better country.

6 年So, the next time you are voting in a leader, at whatever level, ask yourself "is this candidate the most competent?" What are your criteria for competence? Because only competent people deliver results. Or are you going to vote based on patrimony or ethnicity or other parochial sentiments? Think of your children first!
