Many businesses will change permanently after this prolonged lockdown - globally. Rather, a paradigm shift in the making.
Organisations will have to re-think and, de-risk the supply lines and logistics - possibly with minimal use of people and resources.
The recent push towards work from home (WFH) has open new avenues and debunked old ones.. People have become more considerate and have gone out of the way to help their team mates. It was a stress test for many organisation as they deliver project to global clientele; I am proud to have been part of the organisation that has been agile and adaptive to unforeseen challenge - close to 3000 Worleian's in various Worley office in India swiftly adapted to work from home - amid the present challenging times; delivering projects to global clients.
In a competitive and, disruptive environment; adding & providing value always remains a key differentiator going forward - not just cost. 'Boundarylessness' would be the word; as Jack Welch refers* in his 1990's letter to shareholder "...a single metaphor has come to embody this managerial challenge and to capture the kind of organization they want to create: the “corporation without boundaries.” General Electric CEO Jack Welch has eloquently described this new organizational model. “Our dream for the 1990s,” Welch wrote in GE’s 1990 annual report, “is a boundaryless company…where we knock down the walls that separate us from each other on the inside and from our key constituencies on the outside.” In Welch’s vision, such a company would remove barriers among traditional functions, “recognize no distinctions” between domestic and foreign operations, and “ignore or erase group labels such as ‘management,’ ‘salaried,’ or ‘hourly,’ which get in the way of people working together.”
