The Parable of Rombley
Rombley had a dream.
A calling in his soul, to teach meditation to as many people as he could.
The idea of helping others find peace within themselves, and remember their true nature, lit him up with enthusiasm.
Rombley was a meditator himself. However, he was also hyper-analytical when it came to his career moves and goal achievement. He was an engineer after all.
When Rombley realized it was possible to earn a living as a meditation teacher, he clung to the idea.
“I could leave my job as an engineer, that I barely care about, and earn a living with my soul’s mission? I NEED to do this.”
This realization led to years of effort, hustle and grinding.
Rombley created a meditation every single day and published them all online.
He thought this would make him enough money to leave his engineering job and be a full-time meditation teacher.
But after almost two years of putting out daily meditations, Rombley still wasn’t making money.
Just putting out meditations wasn’t enough.
This is when Rombley got obsessed with learning about business, marketing and monetization. He read every book he could and tried every marketing “hack” he came across.
After years of doing this, plus the daily meditations, plus his job as an engineer, Rombley was burned out and frustrated.
Sure, he was making SOME money from his meditations now, but not much. His dream still felt so far away.
All of this effort was even undermining his ability to meditate. He had trouble focusing, and would obsess over how to be a full-time meditation teacher.
Eventually, Rombley hit a breaking point.
“My meditations are suffering. Sharing my meditations is becoming a burden. My job is becoming even more tiring. And I’m getting caught up in my own problems more than what my soul wants to do — help people!”
The years of effort, with little results to show for it, completely overwhelmed him.
He didn’t know what to do. His best thinking, and his hardest effort, led to pathetic results.
One day, out of desperation, Rombley threw himself on the floor of his apartment.
“God, Source, whatever Higher Power exits. Help me! All of my personal effort has been futile. I surrender. Please show me the way. Please.”
Rombley broke into tears — the sadness lurking under his stress and frustration finally breaking through.
As the tears faded into silence, a message popped into his mind. “Work with what’s in front of you.”
It was simple, but came with a sense of awe that shattered his heart open.
He let the insight wash over him.
Wiping away teary eyes, Rombley whispered to this Higher Power, and to himself, “I promise.”
He got up, went to his computer and typed a simple question. “What is life putting in front of me right now?”
Out of habit, Rombley then checked his email. At the top of his inbox was email from his boss, asking him about meditation.
His boss proposed for him to teach meditation to the executive team of the company.
Reluctantly, Rombley agreed.
Two weeks later, he found himself in the company’s big board room, leading the leaders in a guided meditation.

After, when everyone was leaving, the CFO of the company pulled him aside. “Can you do this for my wife’s company too? I feel like they’d love it.”
Rombley agreed.
Next thing he knew, Rombley became the go-to meditation teacher for corporate executive teams.
This made him a lot of money, and was immensely fulfilling, because he could see people transform right in front of him. And he knew that when these leaders elevated their consciousness, it would have powerful ripple effects in the world.
Within a few months, Rombley was making enough money to quit his engineering job. So he did.
He kept creating meditations online too, but only when he felt inspired, because he didn’t put any pressure on himself to make money around it.
Ironically, during this time, his online meditations started getting popular, which opened up even more opportunities for him.
Every day, Rombley still writes down the same simple question, “What is life putting front of me right now?”
With that prompt, he surrenders to working with what’s in front of him, here and now, fully trusting the ever-unfolding path.
I hope you enjoyed this little parable and maybe found some resonance with it.
