Research co-authored by Biology Postdoctoral Associate Mallory Harris suggests that climate change is responsible for nearly a fifth of the world's increasing Dengue fever problem. “Dengue is a growing health threat that can cause really severe consequences,” Mallory told NBC News' Randi Richardson. “We should be expecting these sorts of large epidemics in the future and thinking about ways to then respond to them.” #Biology #DengueFever #ClimateChange #Epidemic #InTheNews #Postdoc #UMD

Entomology Department Chair Evan Economo's research combines traditional field and collections-based approaches with emerging technologies to explore global biodiversity. "Much of our work has been on ants, which I find to be wonderfully complex little creatures where evolution’s inventiveness is on full display," Evan said. Submit your questions about global biodiversity and ants, and Evan will answer them in tomorrow's Reddit Ask-Me-Anything: https://redd.it/1gusgj5 #RedditAMA #AskMeAnything #Entomology #Biodiversity #Ants #Research #UMD

Interns at the University of Maryland Institute for Health Computing (UM-IHC) play a significant role in the institute's work revolutionizing health care through high-performance computing and artificial intelligence. Six of UM-IHC's 17 interns worked with their mentors at the University of Maryland and the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), to develop and apply new advances in augmented reality and virtual reality to how medicine is practiced today and in the future. CMNS Dean Amitabh Varshney and UMB Assistant Dean of Physician Assistant Education Cheri Hendrix led the project. #VirtualReality #AugmentedReality #HealthCare #ArtificialIntelligence #Interns #Mentorship #UMD Mira Khera
