Panthera Africa Becomes Proud Member of the Animal Protection Network

We are delighted to announce that Panthera Africa Big Cat Sanctuary has officially been accepted as a member of the highly regarded Animal Protection Network (APN), run by specialist tourism consultancy Animondial This achievement represents a significant milestone in our commitment to ethical animal care, biodiversity conservation, and responsible tourism.

?

STANFORD, 28 October 2024 – Becoming a member of the APN is a rigorous process, requiring potential members to demonstrate a strong foundation in ethical practices and sustainable development. Panthera Africa’s application included an extensive review of our operations, management, and ethical standards through ANIMONDIAL’s individually tailored Approval process.

?

Our submission detailed our Non-Profit Organization (NPO) certification and our membership with the Wildlife Animal Protection Forum South Africa (WAPFSA), underscoring our commitment to wildlife advocacy. Furthermore, our Public Benefit Organization (PBO) registration and RTI Biosphere Certification were pivotal in demonstrating our dedication to sustainability. The RTI Biosphere Certification connects our practices to the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, ensuring our activities contribute to the global goals for environmental protection and sustainability.

?

Additionally, Panthera Africa holds legal permits from Cape Nature and the State Veterinary Services, confirming that we meet all regulatory standards for the ethical care, welfare, and conservation of wild animals. These permits also validate our adherence to stringent fencing and habitat standards to ensure the safety and well-being of the big cats in our care.

?

Our application also highlighted our comprehensive Business and Management Plan, which has been officially approved by Cape Nature, and further reaffirmed our commitment to running a sanctuary that prioritizes both ethical animal care and sustainable tourism practices. Panthera Africa’s dedication to True and Ethical Tourism is also a cornerstone of our work, and we take pride in our affiliations with respected organizations such as the Born Free Foundation, the Lion Coalition, and the Southern Africa Tourism Services Association (SATSA).

?

“We are very excited to welcome Panthera Africa to our network of authentic and impactful field projects for animal and nature protection,” said David Jay, Biodiversity Partnerships Manager at ANIMONIDAL. “The sanctuary’s commitment to the highest standards of animal care, and to critical welfare issues like no breeding, no trading and no interaction, make them a perfect fit with our vision of compassionate and environmentally friendly tourism.”

?

As a member of the APN, Panthera Africa will continue to foster connections with other responsible and credible organizations, working together to advance biodiversity conservation and animal protection on a global scale. This membership not only acknowledges our accomplishments but also strengthens our resolve to promote ethical tourism and sustainable practices within the wildlife and tourism sectors.
