Panel to hear an exemption pleas

District level monitoring committee panel initiated the process to verify the claims of various bars and hotels in district, which have contended that they do not fall within the 500 meter buffer zone as fixed by Supreme Court.

Interesting fact came into the notice before the Panel:

During the proceeding the members were apprised about the interpretation of the court order by the Excise and Taxation Department that the distance was motorable and not as the crow flew.

It was then decided by the panel into claims of bars and hotels after it received representations from them.
