Panel discussion on the documentary "Human Nature" in Regensburg

The CRISPR / Cas9 gene scissors is one of the most important scientific discoveries of the 21st century. This biological system can be used to change the genome of all organisms including humans, farm animals or plants. This opens up exciting opportunities to fight from rare diseases to famines. However, this system also entails risks and problems, especially since many of the consequences and side effects of this method are not yet fully understood.

In the film "Human Nature" at the University of Regensburg both the opportunities and the risks of genetic manipulation by CRISPR / Cas9 were explained. In the subsequent discussion round (from left to right) Prof. Arne Dittmer (didactics of biology), Prof. Selim Corbacioglu (CRISPR / Cas9 study at the University Hospital), Dr. Thomas Diefenthal (Managing Director BioPark Regensburg GmbH) and Prof. Dina Grohmann (Chair of Microbiology). The event was organized by the junior GBM Group Regensburg (5 people from right in the picture), see more details of the Group under https://www.facebook.com/JuniorGBMRegensburg (in German only)
