Pandemic and the Photographer
Having the process of quarantine at the moment and all non essential businesses closed, you may think that it is extremely tough to be a photographer. Well, you are sort of right. No weddings, no car shows, events nor family gatherings to shoot - that much is true. It really does not even make sense to have someone in the studio for a portrait session either.
There is opportunity in this however. I am going through older images and finding interesting captures that need attention or some experimenting. As an automotive photographer, I have abundance of toy cars to photograph. (yes, please do not ask). I am also entering photo contests, mostly just for the bragging rights and my own curiosity. There are platforms where I can upload images for global sales for the digital images. I can sell art prints through my website, which then will be delivered by Canada Post, or Fed Ex, UPS etc. And I can book photo shoots! This pandemic will end, and life will return to normal - what ever the new normal will be. But there still will be weddings, birthdays events and so on. Some one has worked on their vintage car during the pandemic, and now it really shines. What is better way, that to have it professionally photographed.
I have noticed, that there are some photographers who put on the mask and gloves and venture out doing "porch portraits". Concept of using a long lens, photographing family on the porch and doing a photo session that way. I have my opinion on it, but I am not going to tell you what it is. Because it really not my place to comment. Just that there is no way I would do it, because I would consider it unnecessary travel and possible exposure to virus. If you are driving, there is always possibility of a car accident.
So, just a couple of months, things should be back to "normish", and we can bring the joy of photography to new heights.
