Pandemic Data Lessons

The International Conference on #PlanetaryHealth was held in Andorra on May 12 and 13, organised by the Andorran Government (Ministry of Health),? SAAS (Andorran Health Care System), the University of Andorra and Andorra Research + Innovation.

The Conference offered the audience a variety of topics in relation to planetary health and featured an Opening and Inaugural Session, different Round Tables and two final Closing Talks.

At the First Round Table "Lessons to Address Planetary Health Challenges", the Conference enjoyed the privilege of hosting: Deborah Thompson (One Health Lessons/World Veterinary Association), Joan Carles March (Escuela de Salud Pública de Granada), Eduardo Celades (UNICEF), Ferran Campillo (Paediatric Environmental Speciality Unit, Hospital de Olot), and Clara Prats (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya).

Pandemic Data Lessons

Our next speaker was Dr Clara Prats from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, presenting "Pandemic Data Lessons". You can see the full speech on YouTube.

Why data? Even though data is not perfect, it is the best way to objectively and quantitatively describe a situation. Data allows us to describe a situation before it becomes a problem and to dig down on it and examine casualties, interactions, and connections. Dr Prats stressed the following line: "Data is the cornerstone of scientific progress".

Continuing her speech, she explained what data should look like in order to be able to communicate it. The image below contains some of the considerations Dr Prats shared at the Conference.

At the end of her talk, Dr Prats left us with takeaways on why, how, when, where, and by whom data should be communicated. It was an incredible talk, with topics to keep in mind when working with data.
