The Pandemic Creating A Great Recession Round The Corner, But Will It Also Create Jobs of Many Other Kinds?

Due to the Covid 19 Pandemic We are Witnessing The Ongoing Disaster on Human Lives, Business Crisis, Emerging Great Recession Round The Corner, Creating Job Losses But Will It Also Create Jobs of Many Other Kinds?

By end of 2019 especially the last quarter business around the world was showing hope for a great start again, as the company balance sheets were showing great positivity and strength. CHRO around the world were planning to adopt for newer approach to attract new talents, thinking about to close the deal with employee engagement & talent management technology vendors! We were all hopefully and confidently marching towards a new benchmark setting strategy to achieve greater heights in 2020! Silently but desperately in another corner of the world a destructive hotspot emerged from Wuhan China with a mass destructive weapon like virus! China started losing their valuable human resources, productive business, meanwhile the catastrophe started taking over the entire world business along with heavy numbers of human lives! To the most surprise, World super powers are helpless and looking for the mercy of Almighty only and pleading to every possible technical or religious ways to get a solution to this unknown problem.

Now, every single person on earth are anxious, unsure about what might happen to their lives first and to their families and then to their source of earning! What will happen to us? This trillion dollar question has no answer to anyone right now. Experts are giving us blank looks and we are relying heavily on common sense to go forward! Public health experts are trying new ways of creating awareness, extremely terrified front line doctors, nurses, medical technologist, law and order forces, government agencies, food supply chain, Medicine supply chain, Regular Sales or e-commerce, daily/weekly or even monthly earners and every one of us are about to face many vulnerable industries, all of us are moving ahead with death threats one way or the other! Rich or Poor, Powerful or Without Power, People from all walks of life are facing the same challenge. The VIRUS is has showed how everyone of us are equal without being discriminatory.

Over the 1st quarter of 2020, when every one of us are facing such a VUCA world, surely no one can say that “I have the right strategy in hand to combat this situation”. In most places it is in a formation phase, I believe, most of you will agree with me! We know cash is king but we are not sure now even cash can help, (God forbid us) if supply chain of basic food supplies breaks down, what will be the most valuable assets for us? What kind of talents would be really needed for us to fix this again? Will there be talents available in the market for us to hunt? Will the number of available resources shall be enough for entire world? Will those talents be willing to relocate where they are needed most? In the heads of CHRO or in the board, what talent strategy should all of us take to remain advantageous in this crisis situation? We have many such unresolved questions in head with search in progress mode and we know time will solve for sure!

We the humans have unbelievable power of imagination and innovation, I am very optimistic that very soon we will find a solution to this crisis and slowly we will start to overcome this situation! Meanwhile, we need to pause and think about self-evaluation of our skill inventory and then we need to check our passion for a profession or a place of work or an environment where we will blossom with our maximum potentials or we will find a way for purposeful earning. Another critical factor would be flexibility and adaptability with the changing world, coming out from these self-created barriers were never easy to resolve and will not be very easy? There are situational traumas for which people may suffer many many years or they may simply overcome them with the help of a coach/mentor or through a professional. Coach/mentors are highly skilled resources and not available for every one of us! So what we all should do commonly? Observe, anchor with your strengths and stay with a solid plan to move slowly towards your goals. Acquire new abilities to achieve a moderate way of life! Right now, right here in Bangladesh, we the 170 million people are locked down to stay focused on our health, every one of us are making sure that “we stay at home, keep ourselves safe and our families, communities safer”. We are doing relatively better than many great communities with Gods grace! Every one of us are looking for a threat free world from such a pandemic catastrophe and to move towards a safer world where we again can plan about a better career, start to hunt for newer opportunities!

And when we will be seeing this beautiful day, Talents in health and hygiene, medical technology, life saving medicine manufacturing companies, common purpose usable materials for our health and safety shall be highly valuable. Home delivery would take a higher place in business world than ever before; I am curiously waiting to see how Talent movement strategy will be helpful for various business markets, who shall be taking the first steps to invest more in talents? Will that be technology based or mixed with manual approach? Government or Private Initiatives, who would be moving first? How things shall be effective? Common and Collaborative approach with Regional or Global Approach? Will people be more confined within territories or they shall be more global then ever? What will happen to our culture for greetings? Style through direct human touch will be trusted again or shall be challenged and changed? Will we be trusting each other more about health and hygiene? Will we be facing a new culture of greetings in many countries and how we will consider this new approach? Will these new actions create doubts in our minds rather than creating more trust for human interactions? Time has the right answer and For all of you, My Prayer are there for our safety, good health and long normal lives! Please pray for me and my family. Stay safe always!

You are spot on with the analysis of the entire pandemic situation, possible economic catastrophe and surely the questions. I myself also can visualise that some business will be obsolete in Bangladesh, some new business options will emerge, hence it will create space for people who has the required skills and some will be needing to upskill.
