Panda Speaks (1/5) "Illusion of Control"
I would think that no other movie keeps lingering on my mind every now and then as much as the brilliant 'Kung Fu Panda' series... There's more to this series even for a hard core fan of the brilliant duo - Jack Black & Dustin Hoffman with a bonus performance by Randall as Oogway.
There are many scenes in this movie which can be related to almost all walks of life including work life. In my previous work life, I led a team which had more than 'Furious Five', and my coach was this series.
I always reminded of this scene (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DLpUev1FvS0) whenever someone questioned the capability of my team or there was a new challenge ( there was never a day without one).In this particular scene , a worried Shifu comes running to Oogway to break the bad news that Tai Lung is out of the prison. Oogway says that it was a problem only if Shifu did not believe in the Panda, and nurture him. Oogway then continues asking Shifu to let go his 'illusion of control', for the sake of both himself and the Panda. He also warns Shifu that failure to do so will only result in Shifu himself ( and the Panda as well) not fulfilling his destiny.
In my view, in the current scenario that is likely to present ( if not already) more than one challenge every day as we go through a sinusoidal pandemic curve, Oog-way of corporate life may be more helpful than ever for managers to ensure that he/she becomes a leader by nurturing one's own team. The KPI probably being the ability to answer the question few months down the lane-how many leaders one has nurtured worthy enough to be one's own master? (You may recall that the Panda eventually becomes the master, and Shifu master becomes the student)...
