The?Faculty?Cultural?Curriculum?Teaching?Institute (FCCTI) is an expanded opportunity for instructional faculty to address the completion and retention rates of disproportionately impacted students in their classes by interpreting data and using culturally responsive practices to enhance their classroom pedagogy and materials.
Upon completion of FCCTI, all faculty will have: 1) Sustained access and training of course-specific, disaggregated demographic data through the use of student data dashboards; 2) Culturally responsive pedagogical training for faculty to apply to their class syllabi, assessments, and class activities; 3) Access to resources that support faculty with strategies for continued self-reflection and revision of curriculum in their courses; and 4) Implementation and use of disaggregated student data and cultural responsiveness to support their evaluation process.
The first FCCTI cohort was comprised of 20 full-time and part-time faculty members, spanning all divisions across Palomar College. Faculty participated in a two-day, intensive workshop series held on Palomar College's San Marcos campus during Fall Flex Week. During the two-day series, faculty participated in various activities, cohort-based discussion, and were given the opportunity to critically analyze and enhance their course materials based on research-based, culturally responsive strategies.
The next FCCTI cohort will be offered for approximately 75 faculty members during the Spring flex week. A $1200 stipend is provided upon successful completion of training and tasks. An interest form will be provided, via email, in late-September for interested Instructional Faculty. For any questions related to FCCTI, please contact Nina Shmorhun, FCCTI Project Lead ([email protected] ).
