Palo Alto Networks' Prisma SASE 3.0

Making a difference in defence.
We live in an era where complex digital transformation and remote working are the norm, offering new opportunities for empowering workers, but also bringing increased challenges in IT management and security to organisations.
In response to this, Palo Alto Networks recently launched their Prisma SASE 3.0, offering their latest advancement in network security. The newest iteration of Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) contains a number of innovative updates designed to modernise a secure access solution. I’m Eve Victoria North , ICT (vendor) specialist at ITSUS Consulting | Expert network engineering and cyber security , and as part of my role to facilitate vendor relationships and manage our equipment value-added reselling, I joined the launch webinar. We’ve been a partner of Palo’s for some time, focusing on their firewall offerings, but as the workplace has changed so too has the implementation of cybersecurity.
SASE is a cloud-delivered platform solution which brings together networking and security under one cloud service allowing easy implementation of a zero trust architecture. It integrates a variety of security functions needed to secure a business with cloud-hosted firewalls, secure web gateways, and SD-WAN capabilities making it an excellent?solution for organisations opting for a cloud-first approach or with a distributed workforce. As someone who is always on the lookout for improved solutions, there were a number of features that caught my attention.
Palo Alto are a leader in introducing machine learning and AI into security products in an effort to keep up with the increasing use of AI by adversaries. They aim to simplify operations and reduce response times by automating repeated tasks and getting the various threat finding subscriptions to learn as they go. Integrating these powerful tools can allow security teams to work more efficiently, offering time and cost savings in the process.
A few new related products were also introduced, aimed at improving security and optimising the user experience. Palo Alto’s thought process is that users will accept security if it doesn’t hinder their work, even better if it improves it. In particular I was interested in their new Prisma Access Browser which helps solve the growing challenge of unchecked devices on an organisation’s network. For teams where the majority of the work is done within a browser, this feature aims to isolate the user’s work from the endpoint. It allows IT and security teams to gain more control over the browser access, including managing what applications can be accessed from unmanaged devices, when and where screen sharing is allowed, implementing read-only rules on certain webpages and rules on copy and paste data. This feature is particularly helpful for organisations with Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policies in place and an increased Internet of Things (IoT) accessing the network.
In addition, the Prisma Access Application Acceleration does one better than caching a session to reduce application load speeds. By learning how employees interact with applications App Acceleration securely prepares the relevant dynamic content for speedier loading. This improves the performance, speed and reliability of application usage over a network, even for those of us working from the wilds of Wales. These features simplify operations and create an optimised user experience, allowing for more efficient security management. ?
