PALEA organises informative seminar at Mumbai

The Pacific Asia Lift and Escalator Association (PALEA) organised an informative seminar on August 6, 2024 at Hilton International Airport, Mumbai where vertical transportation (VT) industry experts made presentations on codes, standards and other topics related to elevators and escalators.

In his welcome address, Eric Darmenia, Secretary Member, PALEA, said, “We will share industry information and knowledge that we have gained in APAC and globally.” He also shared a presentation on CEN/ ISO activities and updates. During his inaugural address, Amit Gossain, Managing Director, KONE Elevator India and South Asia covered topics like Make in India, Indian Economy, Real Estate Housing for All, Safety and Sustainability.

Graham Worthington, President, PALEA, introduced the association. He also shared a presentation on Asia-Pacific associations and codes updates as well as sustainability of lifts and escalator industry. Nitish Kumar Jain, Scientist C, Deputy Director, Electrotechnical Department, Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) shared a presentation on Standardisation in the Field of Lifts, Escalators and Moving Walks.

Abhijit Dandekar, Director Codes and Standards - APAC, Otis Elevator Co. shared a presentation on ‘Automatic Rescue Device’ (ARD) and ‘Maintenance and Modernisation of Existing Lifts and Escalators.’ Sundar N, Director Operational Excellence India and South Asia, KONE Elevator India and Management Committee Member, PALEA, spoke on ‘Notified Bodies and Their Role in the Lift Industry’, ‘IoT’ and ‘Cyber Security.’ The presentations were followed by an informative question & answer session.

The Pacific Asia Lift and Escalator Association (PALEA) was registered in Singapore in February 1998 and held its inaugural meeting in July 1998. The association was formed to serve the needs of the lift (elevator) and escalator industry in the Asia Pacific region and covers twenty-four Asia Pacific countries. The association is an A member of ISO and is represented on a number of working groups associated with the ISO/TC178 technical committee.
