Pakistan's Tourism Boom: Moving Towards a $30 Billion Future
In 2022, Pakistan's tourism industry contributed 5.9% to the country's economy, showing there's plenty of room for growth. Despite its stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage, the sector isn't fully developed yet. Tourists spent around US$ 16 billion in 2022, and this number is expected to nearly double to US$ 30 billion by 2033, according to the World Bank report.
After the COVID-19 restrictions were lifted, domestic tourism surged, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which welcomed over 1.2 million visitors in 2021 and 2022. This shows the huge potential for tourism to thrive if more investment is made in infrastructure, easier travel policies, and better promotion. If tapped properly, tourism could become a major boost to Pakistan's economy in the coming years.
