PAKISTAN’S FIRST FEMALE THORACIC SURGEON
#MeetDr.Fizza , The journey to becoming PAKISTAN’S FIRST THORACIC SURGEON began from the very first day of this typical Pakistani girl stepping into class with two pigtails in crisply ironed uniform.
So truthful and pure was Fizza’s passion that even in the first grade she would inscribe her name on freshly laminated work books as “Dr.Fizza ”. She held dear her plastic doctor toy set gifted by her parents since it helped her envision her role as a doctor someday. When in 3rd grade she announced to her father “Baba, I want to be a surgeon when I grow up not just a doctor”.
Even as a 7 years old she had a vision so clairvoyant that she had already envisioned herself holding the scalpel with a Littman stethoscope fashioned around her neck. It was this sown seed of determination that saw her through years of struggle and difficulties and made her rise to prominence as the first female thoracic surgeon of Pakistan. In the formula of success she lived through many sleep deprived days floating through time, yet her eyes remained focused on her set goal. Despite several personal setbacks Fizza like the strong woman Pakistan is known for producing, rose from ashes into a phoenix and a savior for herself and for many others.
Behind the white coat that defines her Fizza is an ambitious, focused and driven person but more importantly she is kind and humanitarian. She may be quiet and a bit short tempered but behind that fa?ade she is a dreamer, believer, who loves Islamic history, listening to music when life gets her down and is always ready to extend help.
Her inspirations are her mentors Prof. Amir Bilal, a prominent Thoracic surgeon and Dr. Saulat fatimee an inspiring female cardiac surgeon. At personal level her mother remained all her life as her greatest pillar of strength.
To all those aspiring doctors Fizza leaves a simple advice to follow: A doctor’s life is indeed very stressful and challenging and during your journey of achieving your dreams you will fall many a times deciding to
give up but in that moment just do a simple thing: think of why you started this and then get up and pursue it till its very end.
