Planning Minister Prof Ahsan Iqbal Chaudhary convened a meeting with consultants from 科尔尼 and officials from the Public Private Partnership Authority to discuss Pakistan's new economic vision, centered on the 5Es framework. This strategy, focusing on Exports, E-Pakistan, Environment, Energy, and Equity, seeks to address the critical challenges facing the country and chart a path toward sustainable economic growth.
Minister Iqbal emphasized the need for a transformation in Pakistan’s economic model, particularly highlighting the stagnant export sector. He compared Pakistan’s slow export growth to that of South Korea, Malaysia, and Thailand, which began with lower export levels in the 1960s but have since achieved significant growth. South Korea now boasts over $600 billion in exports, while Malaysia has surpassed $300 billion. By contrast, Pakistan's exports have reached just $30 billion. Minister Iqbal set an ambitious goal of raising Pakistan’s exports to $100 billion, which he believes will create a robust ecosystem capable of driving future growth.
The 5Es framework offers a structured approach to addressing these challenges. The first priority is expanding and diversifying the export base, targeting sectors like #agriculture, #industry, #services, #mining, #manpower, creative #industries, and the #blue_economy. Building this foundation, the Minister explained, will help Pakistan break free from reliance on external debt and lay the groundwork for sustainable economic expansion.
E-Pakistan and digital transformation, the second pillar, are essential for Pakistan to navigate the #FourthIndustrialRevolution. Minister Iqbal warned that the country must accelerate its adoption of new technologies to stay competitive globally. Digital integration will enhance productivity across all sectors, but failing to embrace these innovations could leave Pakistan vulnerable in a rapidly evolving global economy.
On the environmental front, Minister Iqbal underscored the importance of addressing Pakistan’s vulnerability to climate change, particularly in terms of food and water security. He called for a "#GreenRevolution2.0" that leverages smart agriculture and technology to boost agricultural productivity. Despite being a top global producer of many agricultural products, Pakistan lags behind in terms of yields. Improving these through mechanization and modern practices will unlock significant growth without major new investments.
Energy is another critical area, as Pakistan faces inefficiencies and high costs in energy production. Minister Iqbal outlined the need to shift to green, low-emission energy sources and move away from reliance on imported fuels. He also stressed the importance of capitalizing on the infrastructure built under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (#CPEC) to enhance regional connectivity and create new economic opportunities through road, rail, and maritime links.

The final pillar, Equity, Ethics, and Empowerment, focuses on inclusive development and addressing inequality. Minister Iqbal stressed the need for interventions in healthcare, education, and population planning, while also promoting values such as fairness, hard work, and civic responsibility. Empowering women and youth was a key theme, with the Minister calling for female workforce participation to increase from the current 25% to over 50%, a benchmark seen in many rapidly growing economies.
Minister Iqbal concluded by outlining plans to engage stakeholders, including provincial governments, chambers of commerce, universities, and the public, to build broad support for the new economic vision. The Ministry of Planning will hold consultations nationwide over the coming months to ensure that the vision aligns with the needs of all segments of society.
This economic vision will be integrated with existing frameworks, including input from international experts and national documents such as the party's manifesto and 13th Five Year Development Plan. Together, these will form a cohesive roadmap guiding Pakistan’s development from 2024 to 2029, with a focus on setting achievable goals and ensuring accountability through robust monitoring systems.
Minister Iqbal stressed that the ultimate goal is to create a sense of national ownership over the country’s economic future, akin to Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030. He called for a unifying national narrative that motivates all Pakistanis to see their contributions as vital to the country’s growth and development.

2 个月I am sure much work is going on, however, in practice, there is little difference if any. Let's start with E Pakistan, or focusing on changing Pakistan. For any country in the contemporary world, Intellectual property protection is crucial To get an application file for a trademark or Copyright, manual forms need to be filled out, and an amount as a bribe must be paid to get the certificate or even submission confirmation. Why can we not make an application online, and make payment for fees using one of many effective fee portals?
