Painting Tree Trunks White ??
As many places start to get hotter due to climate change, people are finding innovative and practical ways to stay cool. One such method is painting tree trunks white!
Trees are incredibly resilient, offering shelter to countless species, but young trees need a bit of help to thrive. Tree trunk painting is a classic technique to protect these saplings during their crucial early years. By painting tree trunks white, we can shield them from insects, sun scald/freezing damage, and other issues.
In English, this technique is known as whitewashing. Today, Greeks still favor this eco-friendly method to protect tree trunks and fruits from harmful insects. In Greece, whitewashing is a beloved tradition during Easter. Everything gets a fresh coat—houses, trees, stone steps, and fences—all brightened up to celebrate the season.

A Way To Stop Wind Turbines From Killing Birds ?? ??
Wind energy is crucial for our transition to clean energy, but spinning turbine blades pose a serious problem. They are causing bird deaths through what is known as bird strikes, as the blades collide with birds during migration.
However, a promising solution is emerging: smart technology that can halt the blades when an endangered bird is detected nearby. This #innovative approach aims to protect wildlife while enhancing wind energy efficiency, with implementations already underway in places like #Finland.

The Gambia Upholds FGM Ban ? ????
In a jubilant victory for women's rights, Gambia's MPs voted to uphold the ban on female genital mutilation (FGM). Thirty-four out of 53 lawmakers chose to protect women and girls, sparking joy and relief among campaigners.
Jaha Dukureh, an FGM survivor, celebrated the decision, declaring, "Today, we stood on the right side of history once again."
This vote reaffirms Gambia's commitment to ending FGM and safeguarding future generations. It’s a powerful win for Gambia and a beacon of hope for global efforts against FGM. Repealing the law would have marked a significant setback in the fight for women's rights across the continent.
