Painting as Stress Management
In a world that has too many plans for free time, a good way I find to relax is to grab my brushes and paint some portraits.
Anyone can learn how to paint. The technical aspects of painting are not crucial to the benefit of concentration and focus derived from physically moving a pencil or brush without intentionally planning what the actual work will be.
People are put off from painting or drawing because they think they don't have talent or skills to create. They are dead wrong. The intense pleasure of seeing someone come into being in front of your eyes is unparalled by anything on the internet.
I would urge anyone who wants to relax and have some fun in their spare time to pick up some paper from the store and just go for it. There are no bad artists. In fact, the bad artists benefit more from creating than the good ones.
