CHAPTER 7
INT. THE PAINTING’S HOUSE –
LIVING ROOM – NIGHT - CONTINUES
Sam settles on the couch to sleep.
After that, we observes The
Painting on the wall for a while.
MASTER BEDROOM
Artie sleeps under the bed. Sophia
sleeps on the left side of the bed
covered with a sheet. Jesse is
beside her and is not covered.
He wears his suit and shoes too.
Jesse stares at the bedroom ceiling.
EXT. STREET OF THE PAINTING’S
HOUSE – SIDEWALK - DAY
Mrs. Ruby walks with Marlow, who
smells the walls of the houses.
The NUN#1 and NUN#2 walks and
approaches her. Marlow makes
feces near the wall.
MRS. RUBY
(angry)
Shit, shit, shit! Marlow,
I'll kill you. Why you didn't
do that all shit at home in
it's right place?
Mrs. Ruby takes a plastic glove
out of her bag. After that, Mrs.
Ruby bends down to pick up the
feces. The NUN#1 and NUN#2
stops before her.
NUN#1
(smiling)
How are you today Mrs. Ruby?
Mrs. Ruby takes Marlow's feces
with the gloves and shows
them to NUN#1.
NUN#1
Oh, I see.
Near there, Mrs. Ruby takes off
on the litter bin the Marlow’s
feces. NUN#2 strokes Marlow's
fur and Marlow watches NUN#2.
NUN#2
(smiling)
Good boy... How are you
today Marlow?
Mrs. Ruby comes back from the
litter bin.
MRS. RUBY
Doing shit around the world.
Mrs. Ruby turns to the NUN#1
and NUN#2 that smiles to her.
MRS. RUBY
(continuing)
Okay... What do you want
this time?
NUN#1
Mrs. Ruby... We would like
you to actually participate
in the charity bazaar.
Mrs. Ruby watches NUN#1 and
NUN#2 for a while.
MRS. RUBY
Are you talk about money again?
You don't really give up.
Marlow watches them.
NUN#2
Mrs. Ruby... It’s for
homeless people.
Mrs. Ruby opens her bag, gets
some money and give it to
the NUN#1.
MRS. RUBY
If you want my money, here
it is. I would prefer to be
mugged in the traditional way.
The NUN#1 takes the money.
NUN#1
Thank you Mrs. Ruby, but
we want to see you there
at the charity bazaar.
Mrs. Ruby pushes the Marlow’s
leash but he tries to stay there.
Mrs. Ruby stares Marlow and he
comes close to Mrs. Ruby’s legs.
MRS. RUBY
More Money? You two...
Get out of my way!
NUN#1 and NUN#2 walks fast
from there.
INT. THE PAINTING’S HOUSE –
KITCHEN - DAY
Sam sits down and takes his
breakfast at the table. Sam
wears his work suit. Sophia
comes.
SOPHIA
Did you see Artie?
SAM
No. I thought that he was with
you. He must be out there under
the bed or somewhere else.
Sophia walks toward to the living
room and Sam stands up and walks
toward to the door entrance.
DOOR ENTRANCE
Sam opens the door and EXITS.
He is with his briefcase.
EXT. STREET OF THE PAINTING’S
HOUSE – SIDEWALK - DAY
Sam walks like Denzel Washington
and opens his car’s door. Olivia
crosses the street and comes.
OLIVIA
Morning, Sam.
SAM
Morning, Olivia.
OLIVIA
I wanna say sorry about
last night. I’ll never--
SAM
Last night? What are you
talk about?
Sam faces Olivia.
OLIVIA
You know... Me and you.
Olivia puts her hands together
and simulates a kisses. Mrs.
Ruby walks and comes close.
Olivia hides her hands and smiles
to Mrs. Ruby. Marlow smells Sam
and after that, smells Olivia too.
Olivia watches Marlow and faces
Mrs. Ruby.
OLIVIA
(continuing)
Good morning Mrs. Ruby.
Mrs. Ruby watches Sam and Olivia
for a while and after that shakes
her head negatively. Marlow tries
to go to the Painting’s House,
but Mrs. Ruby pulls him by the
leash.
OLIVIA
(continuing)
Mrs. Ruby... This is Sam
Sophia’s husband.
Mrs. Ruby watches Sam and he stands
his hand for her. Marlow smells
The Painting’s House.
SAM
Nice to meet you Mrs. Ruby.
Mrs. Ruby stands her hand for him
and shake it very strong.
MRS. RUBY
Do you wanna change a white woman
for a black woman?
Mrs. Ruby points to Olivia.
SAM
What?
OLIVIA
Mrs. Ruby... That is not
polite.
MRS. RUBY
I know you Olivia... And
I can hear you howling at night.
Sophia comes from The Painting’s
House very fast with Artie in
your hands.
SOPHIA
(terrified)
Artie is not moving. I
found him under the bed.
Sophia ENTERS the Sam’s car, Sam
turns to the other door’s car,
gets in the car and runs off there.
Olivia watches the Sam’s car
goes away.
OLIVIA
Poor Artie... He must have
eaten something wrong.
Mrs. Ruby turns to Olivia.
MR. RUBY
Weird couple... When they have a
chance to present the dog to Marlow,
it's already dead. Artie... It's an
ugly dog name.
Olivia turns to Mrs. Ruby
OLIVIA
He’s not dead.
MR. RUBY
Whatever.
Mrs. Ruby walks with Marlow and
gets out from there.
INT. TED’S VETERINARY CLINIC –
SURGERY ROOM – DAY
Artie is on the operating table.
He has a respirator on his snout.
Sophia and Sam is outside and
they watches him through the
glass wall.
OUTSIDE
Ted walks toward them. Sam and
Sophia watches Ted that comes
close of them. Sophia rubs her
hands and Sam hugs her and
faces Ted.
TED
(stuttering)
He is... He is--
SOPHIA
Dead.
Sophia puts the hands on her
faces and Sam hugs her.
TED
(stuttering)
Yes. He ate something that didn't
let him breathe anymore. Maybe
dirt, sand or something.
SOPHIA
(crying)
It was my fault. He ate the
drywall that I was eating.
Sam and Ted watches Sophia.
SAM
Are you ate the drywall?
Why?
Sophia pushes Sam.
SOPHIA
I was nervous because you weren't
home. So, I started eating the
drywall.
Sam hugs Sophia again.
SAM
I'm sorry. I will never
leave you alone again.
SOPHIA
You swear?
SAM
Yes. I swear.
Ted turns to Sam.
TED
(stuttering)
I know you from the
brewery and--
SAM
Maybe.
Ted turns and ENTERS to the
surgery room.
SURGERY ROOM
Ted watches Artie’s body for a
while and turns to watches Sam
and Sophia outside.
TED
(stuttering)
Weird couple.
Ted watches Artie’s body again.
INT. THE PAINTING’S HOUSE –
MASTER BEDROOM - NIGHT
Sam sleeps on the bed next to
Sophia that sleeps too.
LIVING ROOM
We can observes the hollow in
drywall. After that, on the shelf,
we can observes for a while, a
FUNERAL URN written ARTIE that
contains his ashes. Next to the urn
is The Painting and under the shelf
is Jesse on the couch with ARTIE in
his lap. Jesse strokes Artie’s fur.
EXT. STREET OF THE PAINTING’S
HOUSE – SIDEWALK - DAY
Sam walks like Denzel Washington
toward to his car and opens the
door. He uses his work suit and
his briefcase.
EXT. OLIVIA’S HOUSE –
DOOR ENTRANCE – DAY
Olivia EXITS closes the door, turns
do the street and waves to Sam that
is opposite her on the other side
of street.
THE PAINTING’ HOUSE - SIDEWALK
Sam watches Olivia for a while and
after that ENTERS in the car and
runs off there.
OLIVIA’S HOUSE - SIDEWALK
Olivia watches the Sam’s car
goes away.
OLIVIA POV – THE PAINTING’S HOUSE
Olivia watches door entrance.
BACK TO SCENE
Olivia closes her eyes for a while
toward to the Painting House. After
that, Olivia opens her eyes, walks to
the sidewalk and goes away.
INT. THE PAINTING’S HOUSE –
KITCHEN - DAY
Sophia washes the dishes on the sink.
Jesse comes and sits on the table chair
and watches her. Sophia drops a cup on
the floor that breaks. She bends down
to picks it and cries.
LIVING ROOM
Artie sleeps on the couch. Artie wakes
up, jumps from the couch and walks
toward the kitchen.
KITCHEN
Artie comes close of Sophia and barks
to her. Sophia stands up with the
tableware and puts them on the sink.
Artie comes close and barks again to
her. Jesse waves to Artie and he stops
to bark. Artie comes close to Jesse and
lies down next to Jesse's feet. Sophia
wipes her hands and walks toward the
living room.
LIVING ROOM
Sophia sits on the couch. Above her
it’s The Painting. She watches the
off TV. But she don’t turns on it.
After a while, Sophia watches her
reflection on the off TV. She gets
her hair and tries to puts them on
the top of her head, but her straight
hair slide down. Sophia tries again,
but she can't do it.
EXT. STREET OF THE PAINTING’S
HOUSE – SIDEWALK - DAY
Mrs. Ruby strolls with Marlow that
smells the walls. Mrs. Ruby watches
around for a while.
MRS. RUBY
Marlow, if you do your feces
on the street, I ditches you
on the road again.
Now Marlow stops next to The Painting’s
House and smells it. Mrs. Ruby pulls
him with the leash, but Marlow struggles
to stay there.
INT. THE PAINTING’S HOUSE –
KITCHEN - DAY
Artie stands up from Jesse’s feet and
walks toward the door entrance. Jesse
stands up too and walks toward the door
entrance too.
DOOR ENTRANCE
Artie barks to the closed door. Jesse
comes and watches Artie that barks
continuously. Jesse bends down and
strokes his fur.
JESSE
Artie... Come on, don’t do that.
We need a silence here.
Artie barks again.
EXT.STREET OF THE PAINTING’S
HOUSE– SIDEWALK– DAY - CONTINUES
Mrs. Ruby tries to pull Marlow with
the leash. Marlow barks toward the
door entrance of The Painting’s House.
MRS. RUBY
(angry)
Marlow... What the hell are
you doing? Let's get out of
this place.
Mrs. Ruby pulls Marlow and they
leaves there.
INT. THE PAINTING’S HOUSE –
DOOR ENTRANCE – DAY - CONTINUES
Jesse gets Artie with his hands and
Artie stops to bark. Jesse strokes
Artie’s fur and watches the door
for a while and comes close it.
MASTER BEDROOM
Sophia opens her closet and gets
some clothes. She puts them in the
bed. She watches it. After that,
she tries on a dress and watches
herself in the mirror. Again, she
tries on another and another. Sophia
sits on the edge of the bed and
watches at herself in the mirror
that in on the wall. She takes one
end of her hair and examines it.
EXT. NEW YORK CITY – SUNSET - DAY
From the distance we can observes
the sunset for a while.
