The painful truth about painless mistakes

The painful truth about painless mistakes

We are here. 2023 is the end of the freebies. The season of pain-free mistakes is wrapping up. There will be real costs to pay moving forward.

For one last time - let's remember that the horrific worldwide pandemic was a lottery win for you and your golf business. You went from a challenging industry environment in the late '10's to being completely overbooked as the new decade began in it's crazy oddness.

That crazy oddness won't be back so please remember that the great boon to your business had, well, nothing to do with you. You were the benefactor, not the creator. And any errors inside the last 3 years didn't come with a price to pay. Odd times indeed.

Demand went through the roof so we, inside our fixed supply industry economy, dutifully responded to those economic conditions and raised rates. It didn't matter if your website bogged down or if that registration link off your email blast was directed incorrectly. The lottery win was a big one and it kept paying off with no backlash for those types of mistakes along the way.

It's over. Not at Most Private Clubs for many reasons - but for you Public Courses, tick, tick, tick. Time's up.

What will your mistakes be? What are they currently? Websites are looking old - they haven't been invested in because frontline protocol responsibility put stuff like that on the backburner. Is your database perfectly segmented with an active portion and a fast asleep portion. Guess what, you're gonna need that sleepy group woken up because there's lots to do other than play golf these days.

A cool new dome packing in 40K a game in May is a distraction. Patio and bar gatherings for a playoff hockey run is distracting. Weddings and family events and getting called back to the office are grabbing a huge chunk of peoples time this summer. Ah well, maybe they played enough golf over the shutdown years anyway.

Mistakes are gonna cost you now. Your 3-year hall pass has expired. I am here to make certain that all those young people who you've hired know what is about to happen. The rough part is they've done their learning in a pain-free zone and that's not a great batch of experience to pull from in the next 5 years.

Learning is expensive and errors are about to have a real cost.

From here on, the cost of trial & error will be much higher than the cost of premium coaching & mentorship for these critical staff members who need to be ready for what's coming.

That's what I do.
