Pain with Purpose
I know the agony of walking 38 miles in a day, or more precisely the two days of agony afterwards. I am fortunate not to know the heartbreak of being whisked away from your home as a child, leaving everything you owned, and everyone you loved behind.
This happens to 50,000 children, yes that’s right, FIFTY THOUSAND children in the UK every year, usually as a result of domestic violence. This year’s “Long Walk Home” organised by the inspirational @MarkTonks is in aid of The Buddy Bag Foundation and The Pathway Project.
I am a proud Trustee of The Buddy Bag Foundation (Charity Registration No: 1164916 https://buddybagfoundation.co.uk/). We provide a bag of essential items to children in emergency care to help restore a sense of comfort and love. We work closely with many partners including The Pathway Project (Charity Registration No: 1005976 https://www.pathway-project.co.uk/) who ensure that every adult and child who comes to them seeking support for domestic and sexual abuse is given an opportunity to engage in services that can help them to make the journey from victim to survivor.
By now, you know where I am going with this, and not wishing to be too Bob Geldof… Both these deserving charities have sadly seen unprecedented demand for their services throughout the pandemic and need your bloody money. The funds raised will be split equally between both charities. Mark has made it as easy as possible for you to donate at our central fundraising page – here’s the link if you are able to donate (https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/.../showROFundraiserPage...). If you have donated, thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! I know how grateful both charities will be.
If you haven’t donated, that is OK too! I know there are a whole host of ways you can support both charities just take a quick look around their websites to find out how. Finally, think of me trudging 38 miles on the 2nd of May, or nursing my blisters and dodgy left hip for days afterwards…
Be happy, healthy and helpful
Paul
