Pain... punctuated

Pain... punctuated

My brother has a way with pain. He never talks about it. I am on the other end of the spectrum. “Why suffering?” has been my thought for the day since my brother’s diagnosis with cancer. Taking refuge on the shores of philosophy must be consoling for anyone drowning in the mere uncertainties of life. When I found out that he has a match for his bone marrow transplant, I was overwhelmed with gratitude.

This is a thank you note to that anonymous donor. For giving my brother a third shot at life, for giving me an opportunity to discover the joys of care giving. When I begin to get fooled by the lie that compassion is receding at an alarming pace, I think of you. Thank you for walking that extra mile – for a total stranger! I would like you to know that you have helped a coma survivor, a veteran, a resilient young man, and my baby brother…

SAMAR (South Asian Marrow Association of Recruiters), a warm embrace for your relentless dedication in organizing the bone marrow drives. In addition to saving lives, you are an amazing source of inspiration. As you are celebrating 25 years, a warm embrace to your mission. To life!
