Pain On A Playground...

Pain On A Playground...

As a young girl, we moved around a lot, about every couple of years it seems. I always felt like I was the new kid at school, trying to make friends. The picture here is me around 2nd or 3rd grade.

As you can see I have red-hair, blue eyes, freckles, and very pale skin. I looked different from all the other kids in my class. In school it wasn’t fun to be different. I have a lot of memories of just standing on the edge of the playground, trying to decide if I wanted to be noticed or not.

If I was noticed, would I be ridiculed or would I be able to make friends? Those conflicting feelings were all jumbled together, at each new school. Most of the time when I was noticed the teasing and rhymes began, making fun of my hair color, freckles, and pale skin. Those things can really stick with you over the years.

Fast forward to me at the age of 27 while raising 3 children, I had started my first non-profit organization. I remember feeling afraid of a lot of things. I was the executive director, and that position required me to do a lot of public speaking. It’s not so funny when those fears and memories from when you were a small child, show up in your life as an adult. Has this happened to you? It has definitely happened to me.

I learned a lot during the 12 years I served as the Executive Director, but it wasn’t easy. I would love to be able to have a talk with my younger self, about all I have learned over the years.

Let’s talk about how we learn & grow…

Our brains have a wonderful way of learning and growing. Our subconscious also remembers things that may have caused us harm, and will do whatever it can to prevent it from happening again. This includes getting over the past, and doing new things. So my subconscious was telling me that being noticed could cause rejection and ridicule. I began to learn, through trial & failures, the tools to overcome my past so I could begin to live life truly at peace, growing in confidence to do what I wanted and was designed to do.

Let’s explore a little about how we learn and what may be stopping us.

This is not an exhaustive list but it’s a start.

4 BARRIERS TO LEARNING & GROWING

  1. Discounting the value of an idea. ie – “That’s not going to work”, or “that won’t work for me.”
  2. Low level of being present. ie – Remember in school when you were outside playing in your mind when the teacher was talking? We just simply check out.
  3. Blocking Ideas ie.–The “I’ve heard it all before,” attitude
  4. Fear of failure or rejection. Failure and rejection can prevent us from doing what we really want or would love.

The 4th was my big one. What is yours?

Through a major event in my life that felt like rejection (again) I founded Vibrant Living International. Our purpose here, is to help people rise above a painful past, dispelling false (subconscious) beliefs, discover and embrace the truth, and help people step into their dreams and purpose.

Do you have past experiences that hold you back? As a coach, my clients discover new ways to experience the present, and let go of the past. Sometimes we need a little help to unlock our potential so we can achieve our dreams. I would love to help you do the same.
