Pain is the Name of the Game: The lesson of a newbie creator vs. industry titans

Who could be powerful enough to make the likes of Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman shake in their spandex??
Do you think it would even the odds here if Captain America, Thor, and the Hulk came to the rescue of their DC counterparts?
The truth is …
None of these costumed clowns are strong enough right now to stop the seismic upheaval taking place in the comic book world …
And entrepreneurs everywhere need to smell the coffee and take notice.
Even if you’re not a fan of comic books these days (and who can blame you), what’s happening is worth noting, because this is a real-life David vs. Goliath story with serious implications for lazy business owners.
In this case, the part of “Goliath” is being played by the legacy comic book media and their unwavering devotion to the Religion of Woke.
Whether you’re talking about offerings from Marvel or DC, their products look more like SJW indoctrination manuals instead of graphic novels …
And this is where our “David” named Eric steps in.
Eric July is a writer and musician who had enough of the bland stories and bad writing …
But instead of merely venting his frustrations and sucking his thumb on social media, he discovered his own super power.
Eric started a comic book company, only now, it’s far beyond some random side hustle - it’s grown into a movement.
Just like what’s been happening with Ben Shapiro and The Daily Wire, he found a way to tap into the frustration and pain he recognized in the market, and he filled a need.
Then, the worst thing in the world happened to the old regime - Eric’s company was successful. To the surprise and chagrin of his critics and competition, sales of his first book went through the roof!?
I won’t spoil the reported sales figures here, but it’s well into the 7-digits. Have a look at this latest video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0qXZhQQ2SH0
So how could this upstart creator with an unknown product turn an industry on its head?
I mean really think about this for a moment …
How does a newbie turn the tables on the hulking juggernauts that created the genre and have dominated the field for decades?
It’s simple …
He has a deep understanding of his market and he’s giving it what it wants.
Seriously, business isn’t more complicated than that.
Who is your market and what do they want?
If you can come up with the answer, you’re more than halfway to rich.
So, if you know your customers are meat lovers, for example, why are you replacing your menu options with vegan platters?
In Eric’s case, he didn’t have to do the market research because he already knew it inside and out - he was the target demographic.
He understood the pain of watching left-wing politics destroy the characters he loved so much, but he didn’t want to idly by and take it. To borrow a Tumpism here: He wanted to Make Comics Great Again.
But don’t think for a minute this is all about being anti-woke …
It’s also about good storytelling.
For more on that, have a look at this interview Eric did with the good folks over at The Babylon Bee: https://babylonbee.com/video/eric-d-july-talks-to-the-babylon-bee-about-woke-comic-books-and-the-rippaverse
In the meantime, don’t make mine Marvel and wake me up when they stop writing Batman for Hillary Clinton.
