The Pain is heartbreaking, let's learn the lessons from it
I have been very distressed with a lot of news about the worsening COVID situation in India last couple of weeks This situation has caused havoc to many households, particularly affecting people early in their careers impacting their families as well. Hearing stories of friends, family and their contacts have been despairing.
As I reflect on it, few questions crossed my mind wondering if we could have done anything differently.
- Were we too confident/overconfident in overcoming this virus and did we become a bit slack using masks and sanitizers? Did we take simple actions even if irritating (like wearing a mask all the time)to protect ourselves and others as much as we could?
- When daily numbers started to increase in Feb, Did responsible people do enough to establish appropriate contingency actions for oxygen stock, field hospitals, more testing, and other methods to prepare for an upswing in hospitalization?
- Was Vaccine Diplomacy more important than enhancing vaccine production to achieve higher vaccination levels to minimize the spread and impact of the virus?
- What was the need to attend as well as encourage large-scale social/other forms of gatherings when the risk of the virus affecting us still existed? Did the economy and its growth take precedence over potential chaos from medical infrastructure break down?
There are few more questions in my mind, but all of the answers lead me in certain directions such as
- Need for greater self-discipline in all aspects of life
- Do not undermine things that have the potential to cause more harm if not planned well
- Need to always over-plan for disasters assuming a worst-case scenario
- Taking care of others is only possible when we take care of ourselves.
- Rely on experts to know the truth, versus relying on forwards and memes.
I wish and pray we can overcome this crisis through stronger self-will, greater empathy for each other, helping each other out as much as we can, and most importantly seeing the positives amidst the negatives. My folded hands of gratitude to the several health care workers/doctors who are helping us deal with it.
Let's hope for the best!!

3 年Thanks for sharing your thoughts Ravi . It’s been overwhelming hearing the stories of struggles and losses . With a lot of us that have families and friends back in India , their well-being has been a default back of the mind stress . Hoping that the surge plateaus soon and happiness rebounds back .
Very Relevant. It’s quite obvious that before the start of the 2nd Surge, people in India became complacent. That, coupled with elections in 4 states and other religious festivals, was a recipe for disaster. Now, we are bearing the brunt of the surge. A real tough lessons learned
