NO PAIN, NO EXPERIENCE

A friend of mine called me over the weekend to express his desires to quit his job, and I was amused. I asked why and he said the organization is fast becoming toxic and dangerous for him. I laughed and I told him, stick to the knitting. He wasn’t happy with my response, but I was honest.

Atimes in our career, the feeling of being used and maltreated will surely come. There will be times when your good deeds will be thrown back in your face. There are times when your boss will insult and ridicule you. There are moments when you will be less paid than laggards. There are times when people you work hard to make their jobs easier will rain insults on you and gang up against you. There are times when you will be punished for what you didn’t do. There will also be times when the opposite works for you...praise, rewards, recognition, promotion ...but look inward!

Gathering experience comes with pain. It comes with harsh part of it. Experience is not in number of years, but in the amount of lessons we learn through work. Your tears is part of your experience. Your depressed moments are part of experience. These are times to learn.

If you run away from these, you may be half baked. Sticking and conquering makes you a winner. Quitting makes you a loser...except you exceed your threshold of pain or risk tolerance limit.

Let every pain count for you! Let every moment of depression makes you better. In all these, get a shoulder you can lean on and don’t take things personal.

As you launch out this morning, stay focused and don’t be distracted by these painful moments.
