The Pain of Discipline

In life, we all suffer from one of two pains: The pain of discipline or regret. The famous entrepreneur and motivational speaker Jim Rohn said the difference is that discipline weighs ounces while regret weighs TONS.

We all must choose between the pain of discipline or the agony of a lifetime of regret.?

When we recognize discipline as a choice, we are in control—not anyone or anything else. When we passionately commit to discipline, we take control of ourselves, and our life journey becomes less chaotic and more enjoyable and fulfilling.

Viktor Frank, the author of the book Man's Search for Meaning, said, "When we lose our discipline, also our choice, we give control away to other people, external circumstances, and the inevitable randomness of life. We drift and become?the plaything of circumstances."

The challenge isn't our ability to act with discipline at any moment. That's relatively easy. We can confidently do something once or twice.?What gets in the way of being disciplined is the story we tell ourselves about our willingness and ability to keep doing it over time.

Discipline is like a muscle.

The more you work on your discipline, the stronger it becomes. You see this in sports all the time. The more disciplined team ends up beating the undisciplined team with greater talent. So, it appears that discipline beats talent when talent isn't disciplined.
