The Minnesota Senate passed paid leave, allowing up to 20 weeks of paid time off for medical care, bonding or caretaking. (24 weeks for pregnancy/birth complications).?
Democrats have control of the State capitol. All Republicans voted no.
The House capped time off at 18 weeks, but the Senate increased it to 20 weeks. The House & Senate now have to reconcile the bill, which the Governor is expected to sign.?
The leave is funded through a .7% payroll tax, split between employer/employee.
It will go into effect in 2025. Benefits range from 55% to 90% of salary.
Minnesota becomes the 12th state (+ DC) to provide paid leave.?
Only Dem states have passed paid leave.
