?? Page Admins: You Can Now RESTRICT Members (Kinda / Sorta)

When logging into my company page today and poking around to look at some of the new features. I discovered this: a new setting -- Manage restricted members.


I've been complaining about this for a while. We can BLOCK a person from connecting with us on our personal profile / activity, but we can't BLOCK them from our company pages.


For those of us who are self-employed, it can be challenging. Especially if we're dealing with:

  • Someone who is creepy
  • An overly aggressive / angry salesperson
  • Someone who is inappropriate (see also: LinkedIn is NOT eHarmony)


My delight for this new page member restriction was quickly diminished when I realized it's not kicking the person off of the entirely.

Nor is it blocking them from seeing your page posts.


RESTRICTION-ish

It's a restriction-ish, because all that the restriction appears to do is to prohibit someone from spamming direct messages to your page. LinkedIn says this:


For those using screen readers or who want to read the important part (IMHO):

When an admin restricts a member from their Page, the member won’t be able to message the Page. Existing messages between the Page and the member will still be visible. The member can still find, view, and follow the Page, and Page posts may appear in their feed. After an admin restricts a member, the admin can remove the restriction at any time.


HELP ME - HELP YOU

The part that wasn't clear to me? Can the restricted person still comment on posts?? I want to test this out. I'd like to ask for a volunteer. Here's what you need to do:

  1. Comment on this newsletter
  2. Make sure you're following MellerMarketing.com here on LinkedIn.
  3. Then message me Brenda Meller?? and mention you're open to being a "test" case for me to restrict you from the Meller Marketing LinkedIn page.
  4. Then, I'll restrict you from my page.
  5. After I've restricted you, I'll ask you to visit MellerMarketing.com and comment on my latest post.
  6. Then, you will need to DM to tell me if you're still able to comment on my posts.
  7. After this is done, I'll remove your restriction. ??
