High technology and artisanal attention to detail

Paddington Square project is characterized by a ground floor and first floor for retail use, a second-floor social lobby and Main Entrance, and office space from the 3rd to the 16th floor. At 17th floor, there is a restaurant with one of the UK highest publicly accessible all glass viewing platform, providing stunning views on Hyde Park. Access to the rooftop is granted via two transparent scenic lifts.

?The brief from RPBW Renzo Piano Building Workshop required the design of a unique building fa?ade that would interact with the adjacent Paddington Station, expressing its supporting structure inspired by the Brunel style, combining elegance and finesse typical of the handcrafted “laces”.

The project was to convey transparency and lightness while maintaining high energy efficiency for a one-of-a-kind office building. The solar control solutions had to allow users to fully enjoy the surrounding views while also providing direct shading.

?The result is a real example of craftsmanship and engineering excellence.

Starting from RPBW's architectural concept, which aimed for a compact double-skin fa?ade, we have designed a slimmer solution in terms of size and profiles compared to any other previous solutions, making it more efficient, lighter in weight, and more transparent.

?The building envelope consists of 11,000 sqm of bespoke double-skin unitised fa?ade and 14,000 sqm of bespoke building envelope, including a DGU stick system for the retail area, an SGU stick system for the retail area in the basement, a travertine stone clad stick system, and glazed canopies.

?A significant challenge was posed by the large cantilevering "wing wall": at each corner of the building, the external fa?ade skin projects 1.5 meters beyond the edge of the slab. The complexity of installing these large units required the use of a special bespoke launching trolley, which we designed and crafted at our facility.
