Two weeks ago, Packhelpers Zuza, Ola, Victor, and Jacek went to Brussels for the Global Packaged Summit, an event gathering leading packaging innovators, professionals, and experts. Our team spent two days discussing the newest innovations, technologies, and developments in the packaging industry. They listened to cutting-edge case studies and exciting stories from companies like Kellog’s, Dyson, Korres, Coca-Cola, Mintel, and IDUN Minerals.

What did we learn? Top 3 takeaways

  • Sustainability is definitely on the rise, but it’s wonderful to listen to some practical examples, such as IDUN Minerals and the packaging revolution they went through. They ditched their heavy, plastic packaging to prove that luxurious beauty brands can be sustainable in paper packaging. And we applaud that!
  • Accessibility is the next sustainability in the world of packaging. We listened to a case study of a packaging project, a collaboration between Kellog’s and SGS & Co. for the visually impaired that ended up in the British Houses of Parliament. Definitely worth checking!
  • A circular economy in the packaging world is desirable and has already been implemented by Korres. Thanks to a network of pharmacies in Greece, they collect their packaging to give it a second life. Truly inspiring!

For me, the Packaged Summit was really a confirmation that sustainability in packaging is the hottest topic ever. I was happy to see that the majority of presentations included sustainability metrics, such as carbon footprint and material use reduction. It gave me the confidence that Packhelp is on the right track with its sustainability measures. - Zuzanna Mazurek

What did Packhelp talk about?

We had many interesting conversations with representatives of some of the world’s most recognizable companies. There is one conclusion to them all. Sustainability is the foundation of the future of packaging and it should be a common effort of the business world. However, you cannot improve without measuring your efforts and data, which is where technology steps in. We were confirmed in our belief that companies need tech solutions to their supply chain problems and are open to exploring available options such as Packhelp Pro. - Victor Grotowski

On the second day of the summit, Victor delivered a keynote entitled Setting the Standard: Digitisation and Sustainability in your Packaging Supply Chain. In his speech, he addressed how we need cutting-edge technology to collaborate more closely with suppliers to navigate current supply chain issues and ensure sustainability within them.

He touched upon how supply chains are broken, how we need increased visibility, and how closer cooperation with each other is now needed more than ever before. Technology brings people and organisations closer together. By investing in digital projects we can empower employees and suppliers alike to drive the necessary change needed worldwide.

Adapting adequately to the new post-COVID environment is an opportunity. Setting up AI-driven organisations and collaborating more intimately through software will allow us to make better decisions and ensure we reach our sustainability goals faster.

Last but not least, the best vegan food in Brussels

Listening for two days about sustainability inspired us to look for the best vegan food in Brussels, and we found it right next to the European Commission building. Le Botaniste represents the future of food. They offer 100% Plant-based & 99% Organic Food & Wine. It was founded by Belgian chef, Alain Coumont, whose passion for sustainable farming and organic food turned into a place where people can get fresh, quality food in a convenient way. The address is Rue Franklin 2, 1000 Bruxelles, Belgium.
