Factory Shutdowns in China — Again

Just when China’s manufacturing was returning to pre-COVID production levels, factories across China’s south began shutting down again. Heatwaves and drought, not COVID, are the drivers of these closures. Factories in the Sichuan province are halting work to prevent power outages, raising concerns of an impact more far reaching than pandemic-related shutdowns. Current closures could tighten the supply of key raw materials that require lithium and polysilicon, pushing prices higher and further disrupting an already beleaguered supply chain.?
