What are the things to be consider by an ARCHITECT before he/she will do the DESIGN?…
Apart from Client's requirements (needs & wants), it is a standard for an Architect to first visit the SITE (where the structure will be built) to check its ORIENTATION and its EXISTING CONDITION. The following should be considered on SITE:
1.) Prevailing Wind Directions (Amihan – Northeast Monsoon & Habagat-Southwest Monsoon); to design the building’s opening sizes & orientation.
2.) Site/Land Topography – shape of the site (hilly, flat, vegetation, rocky, soil type, etc.); for building’s foundation.
3.) Sun Path – Sun’s position (morning, noon, afternoon); for building walls & placement of vegetation/landscaping.
4.) Utilities Tapping Point Locations – Power,? Cable, Internet, Sewage, Water, Hydrant, etc; for building’s mechanical, electrical/electronics, plumbing/sanitary, fire protection design
5.) Site Technical Descriptions – Measurements of site boundaries/extents. Dimensions are coming from the land title; for building setback/building code compliance.

6.) Adjacent Properties – If the adjacent property is an existing firewall wall, fence, house or an idle land; for building’s open spaces
Every design project is unique. The ARCHITECT designs? based on the ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS & CLIENT’s “wants”& “needs”, in other words, the CLIENT’s LIFESTYLE (daily life activity). A design that “FITS” to the CLIENT’s way of life.
So when hiring ARCHITECTS’ services to do the design (house, office, shops, malls, hospitals, etc.), you put VALUE on your hard earned money.
It is not just “drawing drawing lang” as they say.
