Earlier this week I had a chance to witness our government in action. On August 28th, the Altoona Railroaders museum hosted a Pennsylvania House Transportation Committee hearing.
Many of you may not know this: our division (called Business, Engineering, and Information Sciences and Technology: BEIST) at Penn State Altoona is the home of our nation's only ABET-accredited undergraduate program in Rail Transportation Engineering (RTE). As the head of our division, I felt obligated to attend the hearing.
We also had an honor of meeting the representatives (including both Democratic and Republican chairmen, Mike Carroll and Tim Hennessey) and spending an afternoon together.
During our meeting, our RTE faculty members briefed the representatives about the history of the RTE program and its accomplishments so far.
After having lunch together, the RTE faculty members and students gave a comprehensive tour of our state-of-the art labs and provided technology demonstrations.
I felt so proud of our RTE students and faculty for their professionalism and such competent and passionate representation of our program. Go BEIST!
