( Point 2 Ponder – Goal and Outcome)
The poultry manager called his brood of hens and gave them a target. `` I need to collect 50 eggs from each of you every day’’ he said. Martha, the senior most hen clucked, `` Why?’’ . John, the Poultry Manager said, ``this is because our new targets have come in and we need a collection of 1000 eggs daily’’. Beth, clucked again, `` Why?’’ Now John got irritated. He said`` Because the Management wants it, we will get more money with the sales and become the leading seller of eggs’’ Do you understand that Martha? Beth? Lucy and all of you? Dorothy voiced her cluck, `` So’’?
John was in a quandary now. What if the hens did lay 50 eggs each day, and they became the leading seller of eggs?? His mind went blank. What Was the Outcome of all of this? He could not tell. He could not visualise or associate with any kinaesthetic of that goal/s. What should he feel after he achieved it? Happy? Elated? Neutral? Await the next goal? He did nt know? Nor did the hens
So what was important? Was it achieving the goal or achieving the outcome. The outcome, if associated with associated emotions like pleasure, happiness, confidence, etc. add value and power to the goals and give it the required momentum to get achieved.
The outcome is the final result of something, or the way things end up, whereas a goal is the result or achievement toward which effort is directed; aim. If we cannot link the goal to what outcome we want the goal loses its steam as the mind cannot visualise the outcome. All our thoughts and actions are run on the engines of VAK( Visual, Audio, Kinaesthetic). When we add these to our goals, they become our outcomes and give us the necessary boost to attain the goals.
Eg: Goal: Lose 20 kgs; Outcome might be: - Feeling of Greater self-confidence, increased fitness, wellness, Less worry and anxiety for self and loved ones.
Anything that you internally want to achieve or feel or sense deep within. Mitigate that outcome with your goals and you will race to achieve it. Imagine how you will feel when you achieve the goal, what would be the end result of it, visualise the emotions that will flow within you and strengthen them as your purpose in achieving them.
People do not associate with empty goals, but can associate with an outcome as it spurs them with their desired emotions. Positive emotions are great drivers so are negative emotions. Don’t just set goals, visualise your outcomes and be prepared to be surprised by how easy it becomes to achieve them.
