Park & Ride

I was with a Client the other day, and we were discussing the concept of going into trance and the act of doing so on purpose.

It was then I thought about ‘Park and Ride’.

You know those signs you see when you are driving on the Motorway and coming up to junctions?

Well hypnotherapy, and any other work where trance is going to be the modality in play is just like that.

Sometimes when it comes to meditative states we can ‘joyride’ however, when it comes to therapeutic work we are mapping out our routes and we are going there for a specific reason.

Think of going shopping for a particular occasion…you have something in mind and you are a little unsure of how it will look and feel... The thought of it may be stressing you - it may be something new at work, a new protocol a new Boss; or you might just have said 'yes' again when you know you are already overwhelmed...

We are travelling along to a destination. We are looking for signs to help us to know the way forward. We see one indication for a place we want to visit; there may be something really interesting to see and do there. There could be a solution in that place.

We choose to take that exit.

We follow the signs. We are told how to get to where we want to go.

We park our vehicle…our conscious mind

We get on board the train of thought to the Universal Mind Metropolis, where we are going to have a lovely time, and we don’t have to do any of the driving.

It is mainly because we have parked the Conscious Mind that we are allowing ourselves to enjoy the experience of this place. A place where we can saunter, not rush, a place where we can see things from a different perspective. We see them from the perspective of being aware of them, but we can just let them be what they are. We need not pay too much attention to them right this minute.

There’s a particular place we are choosing to go. A Shopping Centre of sorts; one of those that has everything you will ever need. You can relax and just go with the flow.

We can stop and have a chat about things we thought we knew about ourselves; get to know the reasons behind some of our behaviours, triggers and habits. If that’s what we are going there for…

Anything from why we don’t like broccoli to why we have the raging heebie-jeebies when we have to travel by air, encounter spiders, or wasps or balloons, or Clowns even...to what we would like to have instead. How we might make life more in line with how we'd really like to be. How different things would be if we were more confident, less stressed, had the ability to relax more, not get flustered and shy. What would happen if we lost or gained weight and felt able to go up to People and talk with them, tell them our ideas...! What if we could be pain free or release ourselves from the effects of a traumatic event?

When we stop driving and start to take our time to experience and really look at things through the windows of our Universal Mind’s Mall without emotion or embarrassment; things can change. The awkwardness, feelings of unworthiness, all that fear; we left all that when we parked.

Now there's a whole menu to choose from...

The Mall we are exploring has many floors, and you will be guided to the basement levels where all the interesting antiques and collectables are kept there are also storage units that you may not have cleared out for a long time.

We would have had a chat before embarking on the journey as to the proposed destination and what we wanted to achieve.

We can go down into the memory aisle, into the archives of our fears and our ideas about ourselves. We can go into a coffee shop and talk to some of them, find out what it is that they are serving for us. Over some cake we can discuss the issue of weight, whether it be too much or too little; why we feel it necessary to carry it when it may not even be our own... It may even be something that is not working for us anymore and we can negotiate a compromise or indeed a new protocol entirely. We can let it go, even.

We can make it a business meeting, a conference with our Self to update and reassess our situations and our needs. There can be a contract built and signed by you for you... so you have a good idea of how much you are able to affect the trajectory of our own life. Set your goals, make a timeline, check in to ensure you are really doing what you want to be doing. If not then find out what it is you really want and how to go about making that happen in a safe and ecological way for all involved.

We can do a bit of extra work while we’re there, just start things off, look at how we may accessorise, enhance the experience you are having. This is having something designed for you in mind. ?Before we leave the meeting a suggestion can be made, one that will ensure your satisfaction with your choices … which of course is making an order for the future.

When we get back to the car park we feel refreshed and engaged with everything around us, we may even have a sense of achievement as you put the car in gear and look forward to the rest of the day’s journey.

Hypnotherapy is a powerful resource. It can relieve us of trauma, phobias, stress/anxiety and release so much that we may have been suppressing, in some cases without being consciously aware of doing so. The Therapist is the guide, facilitator and co-pilot for the time spent inside that space of change and healing. All ways monitoring the depth of state and responses from the Client.

Why Co-pilot?

Well, you are always in control. All hypnosis is Self-hypnosis. Your own Universal Mind (aka Sub conscious mind) keeps you safe. It has its own ‘Prime Directive’ it will elicit behaviours and reactions to things that were seen as ‘threats’ at one time. This could have been in early childhood and any time since. They don’t evolve however.

A ‘directive’ put in place when we were much younger may not be serving us presently. There is always a higher positive intent by the Universal Mind and that is what we have to discover if we are ever to change habits or triggers that are really not suitable for our requirements be that work, relationships, or state of mind.

When we are making up our minds as to what we would like then, when trance is induced, it is as if we are ‘window shopping’ there is a barrier between ourselves and the display. We are looking on from far away. This is to separate the emotion from the issue we are dealing with. We can be onlookers, dispassionate as we are safe and secure on the other side of the glass. We can see what was and what could potentially be, and we can choose to walk away and leave it all in the shop for someone else to buy. While we go forward with a new focus. We have distanced ourselves from the event, and see it from a different perspective, in a different context and it can now be filed in the non threat drawer. We may even forget about it altogether.

We choose to take the things that make us feel good about ourselves, things we don’t need anymore can be given away, or left for the Store to dispose of… this is a very accommodating Mall. It never closes and can show us our potential all ways. The gifts and resources we can have are always in stock.

We buy into the ideals that we aspire to – we stop selling ourselves short – and we can keep the change.

The mind is an exceptional thing and can both lead us to where we want to go or keep us where we are whether that is a good place or not. A though provoking article.
