The Oxford Report

Not a business book out there to tell you how to produce this mind blowing number - 1% of all US GDP last year was put on the Delta American Express Card.?

And if you add that revenue residual with other fees above and beyond the ticket, Delta drummed up an extra $23 billion in revenue that drops to the bottom like a split shot sinker, creating profit waves and wiggle room to run off the wrong customers.

I’m updating the first sentence of Know, Grow, Exit to “Stay in your lane bro” and - ?“add some toll booths”.?

Fact 2024: If you do not have a recurring revenue the only way to stay in business in the long term is residual revenue.

For example, 2004 bankrupt Delta was trying to make money on moving passengers A to B - while 2024 profit soaring Delta sees the ticket sale as both a gateway to sell more stuff to the right customer and the coercion curb to get the bottom feeders to pay up or get out of the lane.?

Lesson

Team strategy: revenue affiliations, ancillary services, add on opportunities, revenue management, revenue risk.

You heard it here first - chase customers out of your lane.

The other side of CliffCo Coin - From Grand Forks, North Dakota- we have a new sponsor, Musk Miners, and they are all in with multi-state facilities for mining and crypto- which we have not been shy about sharing our 7C’s on crypto and don’t remember one of the seven being C for curious. So why?

First, CliffCo is not a so-called community where we coalesce around a set of biases and status quo. ?

CliffCo has grown into a national leadership movement where we believe more knowledge is gained in differences than affirmation - quite contrary to the community.

Remember Apple (think differently) and Netflix (Be You) were national leadership movements for at least first 20 years of their existence. ??

By the way, I look forward to our great debate with our new sponsor at Porsche on May 10th. I really like these guys when they attended our last Porsche meeting, thank you Kimber for the recruit. They bring a lot to the table. Yes, we took payment in cash, second reason.?

While we are on it - More mind blowing numbers.

54% of Gen Z are tee-totalers (not necessarily in our group but nationwide). Beer companies in deep trouble.

54% of homes bought in Palm Beach County Fl., are all cash - in a residential recession the size of 2008 - this is where the price will bottom out from the high 54%. ?

Mind blowing question - I was asked this week by an audience member what 3 things I want on my tombstone as far as business. That’s easy even 50 years from now:

-Got RC into Kroger. ? ??- He preached: run one company at a time.- And I should have stayed in the same line at the airport.

The future - Big, big bets being placed that the American consumer can chew gum, watch tv and buy at the same time. I say we won’t but money is flowing that way based on a lot of data coming out of China where the consumer is spending in the entertainment parlor - but doesn’t it count that they are smarter?

Evidently, not.

Walmart just paid north of $2billion for Vizio, low cost tv manufacturer and Walmart plans to make it no cost and give it to you with programming and connections to buy their merchandise while you watch.?

BuzzFeed this week sold Complex, a media start-up known for its coverage of streetwear and pop culture, to Ntwrk, an e-commerce company backed by LiveNation Entertainment and Main Street Advisors, which are paying $108.6 million for the company.?

It is also paying BuzzFeed $5.7 million to cover severance expenses of Complex employees whom BuzzFeed is laying off, along with other costs. Consolation for BuzzFeed paying $282 million 3 years ago - this little baby closed the deal.

BuzzFeed is not selling First We Feast, the internet brand associated the popular “Hot Ones” interview series about hot wings and hot topics.

Cliff Oxford nifty post with fascinating tidbits/news - I was especially struck by this surprising stat: "54% of Gen Z are tee-totalers"! Whoa. Indeed Beer companies and distributers should be concerned or better yet taking action and thinking outside the box. The Pandemic caused me to imbibe more, but not Gen Z'ers. Noted: As Gen Z reshapes the idea of a ‘good night out’ and often socializes without drinking, the trade and hospitality industries should move fast to adapt. One answer is "QUALITY EXPERIENCES"...with more young people steering away from alcohol, an environment that facilitates and even embraces sobriety may reap rewards beyond health. ??
