The University of St Andrews has beaten Oxford for the first time in the Guardian's 2020 University league tables. The Scottish university came in second place, while Cambridge took the overall top spot. Matt Hiely-Rayner, who compiled the guide, said St Andrews’s strong performance was in part a result of very high student satisfaction levels. The rankings are based on data tied to institutional performance and student outcomes across UK universities. ? Here’s what people are saying.
Could the UK work week be one day shorter? Almost three quarters of British workers claim they could do their job to the same standard in four days, according to YouGov survey. Meanwhile, the Labour Party recently commissioned a study calling for fewer working hours for public-sector employees. A Bloomberg podcast explores the question of a four-day workweek, including how it affects productivity and office flexibility, the types of job where it can work, and whether a shorter work day would be a better option.? The High Court has rejected an attempt to prosecute Boris Johnson over allegations he lied during the Brexit campaign. Johnson was said to have stated Britain would be £350 million a week better off outside the EU, which opponents argued was deliberately misleading. Rising rental costs are preventing British youth from moving to cities with higher wages, according to a new report from The Resolution Foundation. Rents have risen by almost 90% in the highest-paying local authority areas, compared to just over 70% among the lowest-paying local authority areas, the think tank found. About two decades ago, renters moving from a low-paying area to a higher paying area would’ve gained about 16% in wealth after housing costs were deducted from their salaries, compared to 1% today. ? Starbucks will encourage customers at Gatwick Airport to borrow a reusable cup which they can then drop off before boarding their flight. In what is being billed as a first in the UK, the coffee giant says the scheme will help cut waste and tackle "throwaway" culture. The trial will begin at Gatwick's South Terminal Monday in partnership with Hubbub, a charity, and will see 2,000 reusable cups in circulation in the airport. If only 250 customers used the cups per day, it would save 7,000 paper cups in a month, research suggests. Here's what people are saying.

5 年I can only judge from my job as a design engineer which took up a full day every day for five days minimum. I'm sure there are many others with job titles that no-one understands that could manage fine on 4 days. Then others that I have known that would have to increase their working hours to make it up to 4 days a week...
