OX Seven Newsletter #2

Hello, welcome back to OX Seven's LinkedIn newsletter.

Whenever anyone says 'how's work?' how often do you instinctively say 'yeah, fine thanks. Busy!' and then just move on from the conversation?

Quite a lot I bet.

The last fortnight for us hasn't been the most stellar of fortnights to be honest. Not through lack of trying, certainly not through lack of effort by everyone, but a little bit of what we like to call 'people being slow'.

We always try to dictate the pace of the recruitment process, as we all know lack of momentum kills deals, but sometimes you just have to accept that there are more (important) factors at play.

It's been school half term in the UK for the past couple of weeks and we've actually seen record amounts of parents taking time off to enjoy time with their kids.

We actually think this is brilliant. We don't resent people for prioritising some family time, whether that be holidaying somewhere, or just staying in good old (but my god rainy) Blighty.

I was trained to ask people to make time on their holidays to conduct/attend interviews just so we wouldn't lose that precious momentum. If they refused to then they clearly weren't interested in the candidate/opportunity. 'Sorry babe, I know we were meant to be going Disneyland with the kids, but Will has interview KPI's to hit so I better stay at home to have that initial interview with the company'.

Just wouldn't wash would it?

As soon as I had the opportunity to start my own agency this one of many little annoyances I could abolish. KPI's being one as well. We feel people should be motivated and rewarded by the quality of work they do, not the quantity.

Literally no one has asked us to comment on the Enzo Tech Group video, but here are my two penneth:

Firstly, we did parody the video (see the links below). But we tried to do it with good taste and good humour.

I feel most of the derision, negative comments and criticism all stem from jealousy.

Enzo have a fantastic reputation as employers (they pay grads well above market value), they are clearly good at what they do.

These are young, well educated professionals, dressed sharply and in many peoples eyes very attractive. Is it any wonder that cynical old bastards try to drag them down?

I would put some good money that a huge amount of those criticising them would love to work in an office which had a beer tap, a nice spacious break out area and also stand up desks.

They are pretty polar opposite to how our office is and how we are as an agency, but it does not mean you can't appreciate what they do, even if you (which I do) think the video is a bit cringey.

Whether the videos success was through luck or by design (personally I think the former), you have to doth your cap to their social media team.

Funny posts of the week:

Our take on that video from Enzo Tech Group :

Dan Beecher on the pain of waiting for feedback from a final interview:

Will Grashoff very much laying the vibe down in the office:

Adam Woollard interviewing somewhere else:

You will probably notice that we suffer from a chronic lack of diversity in our team. We're aware of it and something we're proactively trying to address. If you are looking for a new role as a recruitment consultant, can get to Brackley a couple of times a week and you're a decent person then give Will a shout!
