Owning your Online Narrative: The Power of SEO - What to look for in an SEO agency? (part 1)

What to look for in an SEO Agency - part 1?

So you’re a marketing team or business owner who’s decided to work with an SEO agency - what now??

We’re concluding our series looking at what a relationship with an SEO agency should be like and what to be looking for.?

The first place to start with is to be clear about your goals and the SEO practices that can get you there - remember that there are several to consider, including Technical SEO, Content, Digital PR just to name a few. All complement each other to give you a holistic and sustainable SEO strategy.?

Here’s a quick breakdown of these practices:?

  • Technical SEO - This essentially covers the performance and user experience of your website. It takes into account many factors and is perhaps one of the fastest changing sectors within SEO.?
  • Content SEO - you may have heard the phrase ‘content is king’, but where does it come from? Although it may seem obvious, content SEO deals with all of the content on your website, including both the text and images, so it is often credited for customer conversion once they reach your website.?

However, if your website does not have a good technical backend, then your content won’t be seen by anyone if the crawler bots don’t recognise your website in the first place.?

We go by the phrase ‘Technical is king, content is prince’ ??

  • Digital PR - You may have already heard us talk about backlinks, which is when another site with authority links back to your website, in turn helping you with rankings. A way in which to achieve this is through digital PR.?

When engaging in these initial conversations with an agency, it’s important that this is a collaborative process and that they’re able to recommend the most effective and appropriate strategies to reach your goal.?

If you already have an in-house marketing team, this puts you in a prime position to collaborate strongly with your agency, as the agency should really be viewed as an extension of the team.?

Take a good look at your existing team and identify their strengths - from this point, it’s easy to see where the support from an agency is needed. It’s vital that communication is open and transparent to avoid leading to frustrations or misunderstandings that can affect the project as a whole.?

Once these key things have been pinpointed, how do you measure the success of your relationship with the agency? Well you’ll just have to stay tuned for part 2… In the meantime, watch part 1 below!?
