For the first video of the series, we wanted to start right at the beginning - keywords.?

So what is a keyword? A keyword is a word or phrase that is used to describe the topic of your content.?

Basically, this is how your customers will find you - so pretty essential to your business and strategy.?

But where do you even begin when it comes to keywords??

The first step would be to engage in keyword research that will help you better understand which keywords should be featured on your website, as well as benchmarking yourself against your competitors.?

You can conduct this research via a number of different tools that are available at a range of prices. If you’re just looking to get started with a free tool, then we’d recommend Google Keyword Planner and Keywordtool.io.

Both of these platforms will be able to give you sufficient insights on the use of your keyword such as the volume of searches across any given market.?

More sophisticated, paid platforms will be able to supply you with additional information on how to rank with specific keywords and how to integrate it properly into your content strategy (names that come to mind include Searchmetrics, Ahrefs, Semrush and MajesticSEO).?

Once you’ve gone about setting up your keyword strategy, it’s important to monitor this and measure the effectiveness of it - in order to do this, you can use Google Search Console, which is a free tool for anyone who owns a website.?

Your most important goal when it comes to keywords is to make sure that they’re ranking as highly as possible in the search engine results pages (SERPs). These results should then be converting into increased traffic reaching your website.?

Keywords are the foundation of your content strategy and are essential to the majority of your strategies relating to SEO, apart from Technical SEO, so are key to mastering.?
