Ownership
I am often asked this question.
"How do we make the next level take ownership?"
Here is a conversation I had with one such client.
"Do you live in a rented apartment or is it your own flat?"
"I live in my own flat."
"Did you buy a new flat or are you the second owner?"
"I am in fact the third owner."
"Tell me about the precautions you took while making payments and taking charge?"
"I first made sure that the flat is encumbrance free. Second I made sure that all documentation work was completed, clearly transferring the flat in my name. Third I ensured that I got vacant possession. "
"When you talk about your next level taking ownership, have you made sure that they have got 'vacant possession'? Which means that they have the authority and responsibility to take all decisions."
"Well.. there are important decisions that I continue to take..."
"Why?"
"Because I think they are not yet ready for taking those decisions."
"Which means you are not ready to give them 100% ownership. The day you let go, and give them 100% vacant possession is when they will take charge and demonstrate ownership."

9 年Very interesting analogy, Sridhar. How do we factor in that the responsibility and accountability of the flat rests solely with the current owner; however, the same is not the case with the Manager, who is still accountable for what his Team delivers? 'Letting go' is not an intellectual transaction; but a value based transformation, wherein lies the challenge for the Manager.
I help you AWAKEN to your own truth, goodness & beauty in relationships that seem challenging.
