Ownership

Ownership

"Own it!" - Every hardcore friend ever

What is Ownership anyway?

We are not going to talk about the "ownership" that is associated with jumping off of a cliff into a dangerously small body of water. You know the scene, friends encouraging you to "Own it!". If you have never experienced that scene, good for you!

What we are going to focus on is a more important type of ownership. It's the kind of ownership that takes courage and guts to commit to. It's the kind of ownership that takes dediction and rigor to actually follow through with.

"Every obstacle is destroyed by rigor." - Leonardo da Vinci

I hadn't planned on writing this article today, but some events happened that almost demanded it be published.

We have a kitchen and eating area at our office that is setup to feed hundreds of hungry Vendastians at breakfast and lunch. Today there was a small catch. Our entire food services staff is out sick, what do you do?

For many operations, this probably would have been an area of concern, but not here. You can see examples of this everyday around here (no joke). So what happened? Well Jeff Leibel stepped away from his duties as our gold partner team leader to be chef for a day. Jeff ran restaurants in a past life, so he was able to quickly dive in and take ownership of ensuring everyone had yummy food in their bellies.

Jeff was not alone. Jamie Dutchak (the executive assistant to our CEO) also stepped up to help serve lunch and coordinate whatever else Jeff needed help with. Just last night Jamie was there to make sure an offsite went as planned.

I mean, there is really no end to it over here. Even though some of these examples might seem small, you have to remember that these people would choose to act the same way time and time again.

What about the Red Bull? It's hard to run a tech company without ample coffee and Red Bull. Jamie let Josh Singh and Clint Hartman know the Red Bull delivery was here, but there was no one to go get it. Without hesitation, these two made sure the stimulants arrived safely!

Seriously though, ownership is an overlooked characteristic, and it is so valuable.

It makes me feel confident in the overall success of Vendasta knowing that there I am surrounded by genuine leaders who operate on ownership, and are just nice people in general.

If you are all about ownership and want to be surrounded by awesome folks, check out our careers page.
