Own Your "Open to Work" Part 3: Do the Hustle
I met someone who had been laid off from their corporate job about a year ago.
While looking for a job and actively interviewing, they started driving a delivery truck. And as a side hustle, building shelving and assembling products for a big box retailer.?
This shows tremendous hustle. They have a flexible schedule to take interviews.
And... they added their delivery driver and builder roles on their LinkedIn profile, as well as their resume.
They truly OWN their Open to Work.
I know others who would never put that on their profile. Because they view that kind of work as beneath them.
ALL I see is hustle. Hard work.
Desperate times call for desperate measures.
They needed an income and benefits, and that outweighed whatever negative impression that someone else might have of their hustle.
Other people's opinions of you are NONE of your business.
As the philosopher Rupaul once said, "If they ain't payin' your bills, pay them bitches no mind."
On the practical side, use the LinkedIn Profile and resume to answer the question BEFORE it's even asked. A recruiter will ask, "What have you been doing for the past year?" Why not answer it up front on the profile, so that you don't waste any time during the interview talking about the hustles. Spend that time wisely and talk about your qualifications and why you are a good fit for the job they are recruiting for.
