Own Your Beyond - HNY 2023

It is that day of the year again.

I am back with the 10 th edition of such year-end message series. With this email tonight, this series has become a ‘Decade that was..’ kind of collection of such emails.

Year 2022 has been busy, hectic, action packed, roller coaster etc.. etc.. to many of us. Yes. It is also ‘surprising’ with an elected president for INC (finally!) ??

Jokes apart. In my view, 2022 year has been marked with lot of ‘R’s…

NO. Not ‘RRR’ movie, Thankfully !

Consider these …

RECOVERY from the COVID-19 virus in the first half of the year and the RESURGENCE of the virus in certain countries through the fag end of the year.

REVENGE Shopping and Revenge Travel modes in which global citizen wanted to operate this year.

RESILIENCY has become an essential strategy for Enterprises - Resiliency in business operations, supply chain and customer experience.

RETENTION of Employees has become has another imperative for Enterprises after the Great Attrition / Great Attraction in recent two years.

RUSSIA initiated UNWANTED and UNTIMELY War, triggering the oil and supply chain crisis across countries ; pushing most into economic slowdown.

But the most impactful ‘R’ word, in my view, was REDEMPTION.

Here is my list of moments of REDEMPTION during this year:

-?????????Firstly, Cricket T20 world-cup game against PAK was perhaps the most exciting and spectacular encounters seen this year. Coupled with the emotions on the field and off the field, this game demonstrated why Kohli is considered the best in chasing targets. No wonder the clubbed six off Haris Rauf in 19 th over, is called the ‘Shot of the Emperor’. Yes. This is the Virat we knew !

-?????????Secondly, It was a surreal feeling watching FIFA World Cup final with my son. He was jumping up in excitement at midnight, for each penalty kick in the final game and celebrating for a country (ARG) he never been to and about a game (Soccer) he never played at school. I am sure such excitement was only for the man, Messi, whom he admires. This FIFA 2022 cup was a true redemption of the man, Messi. Strange are the aura of such players - when the fans and non-fans wanted him to lift the cup so desperately.

-?????????Couple of more instances to quote?from Entertainment industry are Vikram Hit List for Kamal & Top Gun Maverick for Tom Cruise. These giants have just resurged from our memory and shown us why they are the best.

Well. It was easy to find examples in sports & entertainment industry where emotions and fortunes change in few moments. Let me narrate another perspective where we can draw inspiration.

Just after the onset of lock-down phenomenon, may be around May-2020, I was presenting to team about the COVID impact on our business. One of our colleagues mentioned about how we should be ‘hopeful’ for the vaccine to be out by Aug-20 and how everything can roll back into its usual self. I ended up saying “Business is run on PLAN and not HOPE”.

Some One liners always stay with you.

NO. Not the above phrase. There is another good one - my personal favorite from Jurassic Park - “Life finds a way….”.

With the experiences of last 3 years of COVID era, Redemption of Social Life should be the most celebrated and turn-around story of this year. Nothing else comes any close to this triumph for all of us or human race.

We all found a way to come out this global crisis with perseverance, collective grit, and planning for COVID restrictions or entire mgmt. of Vaccine processes - R&D to Vaccine Administration.

This was possible only because all of us were owing up to solve the situation and re-define our future.

Hence, the big lesson from all this REDEMPTION saga is OWN YOUR BEYOND. True for Individuals, Enterprises or Nations.

Because if you don’t, No one else will.
